If you enjoy working across the full development lifecycle and want to contribute to meaningful, real‑world impact, you’ll feel right at home here.\n\nWhy Join MISO?\n\nContribute to the engineering behind MISO’s $10B capacity market by building and modernizing interconnected systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, data accuracy, and reliable integrations across the Resource Adequacy domain.\nApply and advance AI‑native engineering practices while using strong Java expertise to deliver high‑value solutions in a complex, mission‑critical environment.\nWork on real-world projects that impact the power industry and ensure energy reliability.\nBe part of a strong, collaborative engineering culture across MISO’s locations, where software professionals solve meaningful technical and industry challenges.\nCollaborate with experienced product owners, architects, system engineers, support professionals, and other software engineers, influencing all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).\n\nYour Responsibilities as our Software Engineer III include:\n\nDesign, build, test, deploy, operate, and modernize reliable Java/Spring Boot applications in data-intensive, mission-critical, and compliance-driven environments, including legacy systems, APIs, databases, cloud and container platforms, automated testing, and CI/CD.\nDetermine the technical approach for complex features, accounting for functional and non-functional requirements such as security, reliability, performance, maintainability, data integrity, and operability.\nServe as the technical lead for assigned features by refining requirements and acceptance criteria, estimating complex work, coordinating implementation, and supporting successful deployment and release.\nPartner within cross-functional product teams including engineering, product management, architecture, business subject-matter experts, data teams, and external partners to clarify evolving requirements, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and move valuable work forward.\nApply generative AI throughout the software development lifecycle including design, implementation, testing, code review, documentation, and troubleshooting to accelerate delivery and improve quality.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For:\n\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields (or equivalent experience) with 5+ years of experience.\nJava/Spring Boot: Demonstrated ability to independently design, develop, debug, test, deploy, and support production applications.\nAI-native engineering: Experience applying tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar AI-assisted development platforms across implementation, testing, review, documentation, and troubleshooting workflows.\nDemonstrated judgment in validating AI-generated output and applying applicable security, privacy, intellectual-property, and governance practices.\nGit and CI/CD: Proficiency with collaborative branching, pull requests, code reviews, conflict resolution, automated builds, testing, and deployment workflows.\nAPIs and integration: Experience designing, consuming, testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting service contracts and system integrations.\nDatabases/data: SQL, schemas, data quality, and transaction/integration concepts matter more than one specific product\nTechnical decision-making: Experience evaluating technical alternatives and non-functional requirements to determine an appropriate implementation approach for complex features.\nDelivery: Ability to estimate complex engineering work and understand the components required to deploy, release, monitor, and support production software.\nExperience with cloud-native architectures and engineering platforms such as Azure, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, containerization, observability tooling, or infrastructure-as-code is preferred.\nUnderstanding of secure software development practices in a compliance-driven environment is preferred; experience with standards such as NERC CIP or SOC 1 is beneficial.\n\nAppropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.\n\nTransformative innovation is happening in the electric industry, from digitalizing homes and distributed resources to renewable energy and an ever-changing grid.
