Freelance - Senior Payroll Process & Mapping Consultant

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Process & Mapping Consultant to support a major client within the wind and manufacturing industry. This is a 6-month freelance contract with a strong possibility of extension.📍 Location & SetupRemote work with flexibilityOn-site presence required during on-boarding (approx. 3–5 days)Client location: Central Denmark region💼 Role OverviewIn this role, you will take the lead in strengthening payroll operations by building a more resilient, scalable, and process-driven delivery model. The focus is on reducing person dependency andensuring operational continuity across multiple countries.✅ Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement a backup and coverage model for payroll operationsLead process mapping and SOP creation across multiple European payroll environmentsDocument payroll processes including: country-specific rules and calendars. Controls, dependencies, and escalation paths.Identify and address: process inefficiencies, manual workarounds and operational risksDrive continuous improvement initiatives (not just quick fixes)Define and track process KPIs to ensure stability and performanceClarify roles and responsibilities across Payroll, HR, and shared servicesSupport onboarding of additional contractors without disrupting ongoing operationsTranslate insights into actionable recommendations and future-state process designs🎯 RequirementsSolid experience in multi-country European payroll environmentsStrong expertise in process mapping, documentation, and SOP creationExperience with payroll compliance, controls, and service continuityProven ability to design resilience or backup modelsFamiliarity with Lean Six Sigma or similar methodologiesExperience using tools such as Visio, ARIS, Word, OneNote, etc.Strong stakeholder management and communication skillsADP experience is a plus, but not essentialFluent in English (additional European languages are an advantage)⏱️ Engagement OptionsWe are open to:Full-time contractorsPart-time contractors🤝 Ideal CandidateYou are hands-on, structured, and able to translate complexity into clear, actionable processes.
