CNC Machinist
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines to produce high-quality precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires hands-on machining expertise, strong attention to detail, and the ability to maintain tooling, equipment, and process documentation to meet tight tolerances, deadlines, and customer requirements, often in support of defense projects.This position is expected to be primarily assigned to our research and development facility (6:00 AM 2:30 PM, Monday Friday), but the candidate should be flexible and willing to cross-train in our production environment (6:00 AM 4:30 PM, Monday Thursday) as well. The successful candidate will be hired as a Machinist II or III based on experience and skillset.DescriptionSet up and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision partsInterpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to ensure parts meet tolerances and quality standardsPerform machine offsets, tool changes, and adjustments as necessaryInspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and gaugesTroubleshoot machining programs and processesMaintain machine tools, cutting equipment, and workstations in a clean and safe conditionComplete documentation such as job travelers, inspection reports, and nonconformance recordsCollaborate with engineers and others to improve machining processes and implement lean manufacturing practicesFollow all company compliance requirementsOther duties as assignedRequiredHigh School diploma or equivalent3+ years of experience operating CNC machines in a precision metal-part manufacturing environment (aerospace or defense experience desirable)Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.)Ability to read and interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)Basic program editing experienceAbility to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelinesWorking ConditionsStanding, walking, lifting/maneuvering up to 50 lbs.Frequent exposure to powders, dust, lubricants, and manufacturing equipmentUse of PPE such as gloves, masks, safety shoes, and protective eyewearPreferred2-year degree, technical certification, apprenticeship, or equivalentExperience with 5-axis millsExperience operating wire EDM machinesExperience programming with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam preferred)Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systemsCompetenciesWork Execution & Excellence: Efficient planning and quality execution, ability to meet deliverables and deadlines, and a drive toward excellence
