This role also provides leadership, training, and guidance to less experienced maintenance staff. As the organization scales, the role will increasingly focus on coordinating, overseeing, and managing facilities work performed by third-party vendors, and serving as a primary liaison between internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure timely, compliant, and high-quality completion of facilities work.\r\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\r\nFacilities Operations and Technical Execution\r\nPerform hands-on maintenance and repair work as needed, including urgent issues, interim coverage, or work not assigned to external vendors, including but not limited to:\r\nPlumbing repairs\r\nCarpentry and structural repairs\r\nWindow, door, lock, and flooring installation and repair\r\nMinor electrical repairs\r\nPainting and surface finishing\r\nAppliance and kitchen equipment repair\r\nFurniture and equipment moving\r\nConduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.\r\nTroubleshoot mechanical and facility-related issues and determine appropriate repair methods.\r\nMaintain cleanliness and upkeep of common areas.\r\nMaintain landscaping and grounds, including irrigation systems and pest control.\r\nMaintain tools and equipment in safe working condition and request supplies as needed.\r\nPick up and deliver items as required.\r\nPerform additional duties as assigned.\r\nFacilities Coordination, Oversight, and Planning\r\nOver time, shift emphasis from primarily hands-on maintenance toward greater responsibility for coordinating, scheduling, and overseeing facilities services delivered by external vendors, based on operational needs and organizational readiness.\r\nPlan, coordinate, and oversee facilities work performed by external vendors and contractors.\r\nServe as the primary point of contact for vendors during facilities projects and outsourced maintenance work.\r\nMonitor vendor performance to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, safety requirements, and quality standards.\r\nRecommend when repairs should be completed in-house or contracted out.\r\nDevelop and define scopes of work for outsourced facilities and maintenance projects.\r\nEvaluate cost, risk, urgency, and operational impact when determining outsourcing versus internal work.\r\nCoordinate scheduling of vendor work to minimize disruption to programs and operations.\r\nUse inspection findings to inform vendor-managed maintenance plans and facilities project prioritization.\r\nProvide leadership, training, and guidance to maintenance staff.\r\nMaintain routine maintenance records and basic documentation related to vendor work and facilities projects.\r\nAssist with tracking project-related costs and work completion to support facilities planning and budgeting and deliver items as required.\r\nREQUIREMENTS\r\nSKILLS YOU'LL NEED\r\nHigh School Diploma or GED required.\r\nSeveral years of experience in facilities, equipment, and/or grounds maintenance preferred.\r\nStrong skills in painting, carpentry, plumbing, custodial work, and landscaping.\r\nDemonstrated mechanical aptitude and institutional maintenance experience.\r\nBasic computer skills (Word, Excel, email).\r\nAbility to operate and maintain hand and power tools.\r\nKnowledge of irrigation systems, gardening, and appropriate plants for the local climate.\r\nStrong leadership and communication skills.\r\nExperience coordinating or overseeing work performed by external vendors or contractors preferred.\r\nAbility to manage multiple workstreams, schedules, and priorities across sites.\r\nStrong organizational, documentation, and follow-up skills to ensure vendor accountability.\r\nThis role is expected to evolve over time toward increased responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing facilities work through third-party vendors.\r\nAbility to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor with or without reasonable accommodation.\r\nAbility to work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.\r\nValid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.\r\nWORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\r\nThe work environment may include indoor and outdoor settings.\r\nExposure to noise, temperature extremes, dust, fumes, wet conditions, vibrations, and hazardous materials (cleaning agents, fertilizers, oils).\r\nPhysical activities include standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, crawling, and climbing.\r\nRegular use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.\r\nSPECIAL CONDITIONS\r\nMandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.\r\nNOTE\r\nAll staff members will be considered introductory employees for the first three months of employment and will not be considered regular employees until the conclusion of this period.
