Works in conjunction with Surgical Services management staff to manage the financial and business operations for Perioperative Services. Is one of the liaisons for the surgeons, anesthesiologists, central service, purchasing, finance and departments that interact with the operating room. Is responsible for the capital and supply portion of the operational budget. Participates in the development and implementation of strategic and business plans for areas of responsibility. This position reports to the Vice President Operations at Mercy.Position DetailsExecutive Director of Surgical ServicesMercy St. Louis HospitalLevel I Trauma and Burn CenterFull-Time | DaysRelocation Assistance AvailablePosition OverviewMercy St. Louis Hospital is seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Director of Surgical Services to provide leadership oversight for surgical operations within our Level I Trauma and Burn Center. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered surgical services through collaborative leadership, sound operational management, and fiscal responsibility.The Executive Director partners closely with physician leaders, caregivers, and hospital leadership to drive excellence in performance, quality, and patient outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain effective working relationships and open lines of communication with caregivers, physicians, and leadership across departmentsCollaborate with management teams to achieve departmental goals and organizational prioritiesServe as a resource for ancillary areas utilizing comparable services, equipment, or proceduresMaintain awareness of professional standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices at local, state, and national levelsDevelop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards and departmental workflowsEstablish and oversee inventory management systems for surgical supplies and instrumentation, ensuring appropriate par levels, turnaround times, and communication regarding equipment availabilityLead human resource functions including interviewing, hiring, and supporting caregiver developmentMeet with vendors to evaluate product lines, recommend alternatives, and support cost-containment initiativesParticipate in contract negotiations, implementation, and ongoing complianceCollaborate closely with surgeons and surgical teams to ensure smooth transitions related to products, equipment, and procedural changesAnalyze financial and operational reports to support informed business decisions and cost-benefit evaluationsQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in a related field or business requiredMinimum of 2 years of leadership experience in the Perioperative spaceMaster’s degree strongly preferredSkills & CompetenciesStrong verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to lead others with professionalism, kindness, and respectProven capability to interpret and compile financial data to support operational and strategic decisionsEffective collaborator with physicians, vendors, and multidisciplinary teamsWhy Mercy?Mercy is committed to bringing to life a healing ministry through compassionate care and exceptional service.
