Engineering Manager

Position OverviewWe are seeking a senior-level Engineering Manager to lead and expand a growing engineering office based in the Charlotte, NC area. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing a multidisciplinary engineering and design team, and serving as a key client-facing leader to support project delivery and resolve technical challenges.In addition to operational leadership, this position plays a critical role in supporting business development efforts, promoting engineering services, and cultivating new client relationships within the investor-owned utility, municipal, and electric cooperative markets.This position reports to a senior business leader and includes direct management responsibility.Key ResponsibilitiesLead office operations including staff supervision, workload planning, budget oversight, and schedule managementFoster strong employee engagement through hiring, mentorship, performance reviews, and career developmentProvide technical oversight of project scopes, budgets, proposals, and executionReview and develop engineering specifications for bidding, including equipment, labor, and protection & control systemsAct as a primary point of contact for key clients, addressing technical and project-related concernsSupport and drive business development initiatives, including maintaining existing accounts and pursuing new opportunitiesContribute to strategic growth initiatives by supporting the delivery of integrated, multi-discipline engineering solutionsPromote and uphold a strong safety culture by adhering to established safety standards and best practicesMaintain awareness of industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies impacting the utility sectorOperational Leadership Manage and provide technical leadership to Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, Designers, and TechniciansOversee resource utilization, forecast staffing needs, and monitor project backlogCoordinate cross-functional collaboration with teams in other locations and disciplinesConduct quality control reviews for substation protection and control designs, relay settings, and stamped construction packagesResolve internal team challenges and client issues in a professional and effective mannerSupport construction activities as neededQualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical EngineeringProfessional Engineer (PE) license required; multi-state licensure capability preferredMBA, PMP, or Master's degree in Engineering Management is a plus10+ years of experience in substation and protection & control engineering5+ years in an engineering consulting environment5+ years of people management experienceStrong business development, networking, and client relationship skillsExperience evaluating technical challenges and engineering solutionsProcess-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvementExcellent communication and leadership abilitiesTechnical Skills Proficiency with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, CYMTCC, SEL software, Omicron Testing Universe, or similar toolsWorking knowledge of project management softwareStrong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related Office toolsAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
