A better future?Job DescriptionNATURE OF WORK: This position encompasses all areas of mechanical design engineering—including structural design, component design, mechanisms, and tooling. This position works with the Program Manager and Engineering departments to complete designs. Develop designs from direction supplied by Novi program management and external Lear engineersResponsibilitiesEXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (The following duties are typical for this classification. However, any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)Work closely with Project Managers, Controls Engineers, the manufacturing team, and customers to develop systems and develop systems and complete projects.Provides machine, mechanism, and tooling design along with drawing creation while under minimal technical supervision.Prepares drawing packages for manufacture and assembly, ensuring they are complete and accurate, meeting all customer drawing requirements as well as proper drafting standardsCollaborates with shop members prior to and during the buildDeliberates with Controls engineers to design for integration and select pneumatic componentsDevelop mechanical designs to solve production plant issuesUses SolidWorks to develop equipment, machine, mechanism, or tooling designs that meet customer specifications and the company quoteKnowledgeable in standards, processes, and best practices and able to use them to complete duties.Develop predictive maintenance indicators to increase reliability and reduce downtimeSupports legacy mechanical designsShares design methodologies, productivity tools, standards, processes, and legacy information for increased knowledge and experience within the companyMentors less experienced design staff and assists in the development of concepts and design methodologies for projectsEducation RequirementsHigh school diploma or GEDExperience RequirementsThree years’ experience in a design role at an automation/machine build shop.Knowledge and experience with raw materials, fabrication processes, and other techniques for maximizing the fabrication efficiency of equipment through the shopExperienced in drawing creation for assemblies and details to include all dimensions, tolerances, and documentation to allow the manufacture and assembly of designs that meet specified requirementsMotivated to initiate and implement tasks, strategies, and techniques in a goal-oriented manner to increase productivity and profitabilityTechnically creative with an understanding of mechanical functions to provide solutions in a robust and economical mannerCapable of evaluating quotations, specifications, and documentation to discern functional requirements, identify missing information, and define tasks for mechanical designsOrganized and flexible in work functions allowing for dedicated, multitasking, and task interrupted dutiesAnalytical and decisive to define, evaluate and solve problems in an organized processStrong communication skills, both written and verbal with competency in computer and Microsoft Office productsAbility to collaborate in team environments while maintaining individual duties effectivelyCommunication across cross functional groupsCommunication with suppliers to aid in design decisionsCommitted to integrity, ethical, and economical practicesAbility to travel 20% to customer sites to capture design info or assist installationEqual Opportunity EmployerLear Corporation is committed to fair, merit‑based employment practices and equal opportunity.We provide reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable law.
