Applicants with the following experience, skills, and abilities are encouraged to apply:\n\nOperation of single and double-axle dump trucks, front-end loader, tractor with cutter, excavator or backhoe, asphalt roller, asphalt distributor, bobcat with attachments, computer, and Personal Data Assistance.\n\nKnowledgeable in the safe operation of passenger vehicles as well as other equipment operated by Highway Foreman 1.\n\nAbility to communicate both verbally and non-verbally in an effective manner to supervisor and subordinates.\n\nAt time of appointment, possess and maintain licensing in the following areas: Class “A” CDL.\n\nWhile in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.\n\nFour years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR\n\nFour years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.\n\nNOTE: Experience in any combination of the qualifying fields will be accepted.\n\nThe official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.\n\nJob Duties\n\nSupervises the Mobile Equipment Operators performing maintenance to the highways and bridges.\n\nPrepares daily labor and equipment report. Orders materials daily.\n\nGuides and instructs assigned personnel to see that Highway Standards are met.\n\nConducts routine administration meetings and training.\n\nWorks emergencies at night.\n\nMay be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.\n\nPosition-Specific Details\n\nMust maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements.\n\nRandom drug testing is required.\n\nWill need computer skills, cell phone, and PDA knowledge for performing regular job duties.\n\nRequires night-time operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours.\n\nLifting of a maximum of 50 pounds will be required.
