Some of our many services include Civil, Environmental, Structural and Marine Engineering; Land Surveying; Land Planning; Landscape Architecture; Geographic Information Systems and Construction Administration.\nThomas & Hutton has an opening for a motivated and driven licensed Senior Structural Engineer in Mount Pleasant (Charleston), SC.\nThe ideal candidate will be expected to be involved with the concept planning, assessments, design and construction administration of a large variety of structures for both internal and external clients, public and private. Markets for structural services include industrial, commercial, municipal, marine, institutional, residential and energy. Structures may include, but are not limited to, treatment plants, marinas, bulkheads, piers, wharves, bridges, buildings, drainage and water control structures, pump stations, monuments, specialty equipment foundations, and erosion control solutions. Design and analysis of concrete, wood, structural steel, cold formed steel, masonry, aluminum, and composite materials will be required.\nThis position requires strong technical skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. This role requires regular interaction with other structural engineers, our clients, other senior level managers within the firm, subconsultants and contractors.\nTypical Duties:\nPerform structural design & analysis, prepare reports, perform condition assessments, prepare construction plans & specifications.\nMentor engineers and designers.\nLead the technical development program for the department.\nLead and coordinated the Revit development program for the department.\nCommunicate with department staff and manage workload.\nCoordinated between the structural department and other disciplines.\nSupport proposal preparation: assist with development of the scope of work, schedule and budget.\nWork on multiple projects simultaneously.\nAssist with the preparation of opinions of cost.\nPrepare and review drawings prepared using AutoCAD and Revit.\nManage technical quality control review process within the department.\nPerform field work for condition assessments for a variety of structures.\nPerform construction administration and oversight, reviewing submittals, responding to contractor’s questions and visiting job sites.\nNote: Standing, walking and, at times, climbing, for long periods of time will be required.\nMinimum Requirements\nEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. US Professional Engineering License required in at least one state (these are preferred states: SC, GA, NC, or TN or NCEES for reciprocity).\nExperience: Minimum of 15+ years’ experience in design of structures.\nSkills:\nAbility to work a regular schedule of 7:30AM to 5:30PM Mondays – Thursdays, 7:30am to 11:30AM on Fridays, and occasionally at night and on the weekends.\nExcellent written and verbal communication in English.\nAbility to mentor PEs and EITs.\nAbility to manage assigned projects, including workload, resources, deadlines, and budgets.\nAbility to interact with clients and contractors.\nExperience designing a variety of structures, using a variety of materials.\nFluency with finite element modeling (primarily RISA and SAP2000), design programs and hand calculations.\nAbility to use Mathcad to produce calculations.\nAbility to use AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit to produce drawings.\nProven ability to multi-task, appropriately prioritize workflow and complete tasks within budget.\nAbility to perform construction services for structural projects and work with contractors.\nAbility to perform field work for assessments and construction observation in a variety of environments.\nAbility to solve problems and evaluate a variety of options.\nExcellent time management skills.\nPlease note, sponsorship is not available for this position.
