Custodial Worker 1 (Mo-Fr 3pm-11pm) Shippensburg University is seeking reliable and motivated individuals for the position of Custodial Worker I within the Custodial Services Department. This role is essential to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across campus facilities, including academic buildings, administrative offices, residence halls, and athletic spaces. The Custodial Worker I is responsible for performing a wide range of custodial and housekeeping duties in an assigned area of the university. This position ensures that departmental cleaning standards, policies, and procedures are consistently followed while supporting the overall cleanliness and sanitation of campus facilities. This is a designated essential position, requiring employees to report to work during campus delays, closures, or emergency situations. Weekend rotational schedules may be required to maintain operational coverage. Key Responsibilities: Perform routine and detailed general custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of university facilities including: Cleaning furniture, fixtures, lavatories, stairways, windows, carpets, and drinking fountains Trash removal and floor care (mopping, vacuuming) Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, locker rooms, and shower areas Participate in seasonal deep cleaning (fall and spring housecleaning) Operate and inspect manual and powered custodial equipment in safe manner Monitor and report maintenance issues or needed repairs in buildings and furniture Maintain custodial closets, supplies and equipment rooms; request supplies as needed Follow all safety protocols and participate in training programs Provide support during emergencies and scheduled campus events Assist with event setup, coverage and cleanup as needed Respond appropriately to urgent or emergency cleaning situations Deliver excellent customer service; respond to complaints and service needs with appropriate measure of courtesy and service. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to follow established cleaning procedures, safety guidelines, and oral and written instructions Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and perform physically demanding tasks Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness standards Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Effective communication and customer service skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, shampooers, vacuums, extractors, foggers, and chemical dispensers Willingness to be trained on and operate additional equipment as needed Preferred Qualifications: Previous custodial experience preferred.
