In this role, you'll lead engineering teams responsible for modernizing and expanding our product portfolio while helping drive SoftWriters' transition to an agent-first, AI-enabled software development culture that delivers exceptional value to our customers.\n\nLocation: Hybrid - Pittsburgh, PA (Core office days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)\n\nReports to: Director, Software Engineering\n\nWhat You'll Do\n\nThe essential functions include, but are not limited to:\n\nLead multiple innovative technology projects and the teams that deliver them\nLeverage your experience to hire and scale up engineering teams\nUnderstand the business environment and work closely with other teams to efficiently drive team progress, and to ensure that projects align with strategic and tactical objectives\nProvide recommendations regarding emerging trends, design requirements, best practices, and the utilization of advanced software development methods — including agentic and AI-assisted development approaches\nProvide mentorship to team members in the delivery of clear, concise, and tested code\nSupport and guide Scrum practices, providing an excellent team experience\nFacilitate collaboration amongst the team in delivering value each Sprint\nConsistently deliver business value within forecasts\nPartner with Scrum Masters and Product Owners in support of team member performance and development\nFocus on increasing the level of quality in all aspects of product development\nLead your team through our evolution to an agent-first SDLC\nModel active, hands-on use of our AI tooling (Cursor, Claude Code) rather than advocating from the sidelines\nCoach engineers at every comfort level — from early adopters to those who need more support — toward genuine, sustained adoption\nIdentify where AI tooling changes how your team plans, reviews, tests, and ships, and help make that operational, not theoretical\nPartner with the Director of Engineering to spot adoption friction on your team early and address it directly and supportively\nDemonstrate an innovative spirit in continuously improving yourself, others, and our culture\nBe energized by duties as assigned\n\nWhat We're Looking For Required:\n\nBS in Computer Science, Information Science, Management Information Science, related discipline, or equivalent experience\n2+ years hands-on technical leadership and people leadership experience\nExperience building and leading a diverse team of engineers\nExperience working with Scrum teams and comfortable leading in a self-organized team of teams\nAdvanced software application design and development knowledge\nA solid foundation in Computer Science, with strong competencies in data structures and algorithms\nDemonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively\nProven ability to take ownership of, and follow through on, escalated incidents requiring leadership attention until resolution is achieved\nExperience leading a team through a significant change in tooling, process, or technology — and comfort holding a high bar while genuinely supporting people through it\nExperience with SOLID principles, IOC / DI, ORM, and unit testing\nExperience designing and developing relational databases (SQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)\nExperience with one or more source control systems (Git, TFS, TortoiseSVN, etc.)\nStrong customer service orientation\n\nPreferred:\n\nMS in Computer Science, Information Science, Management Information Science, related discipline, or equivalent experience\nHands-on experience with AI-assisted or agentic development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) in a professional setting\nExperience and creativity in resolving software application and work-flow process problems\nExperience developing with languages and technologies in the Microsoft tech stack such as:\n.NET Framework and/or .NET Core (C#)\nWPF, MVVM\nEntity Framework\nSQL Server\nExperience with web and/or mobile development:\nJavaScript, TypeScript\nAngular, React, React Native\nREST APIs\nNative iOS, Android\nScrum@Scale, Scrum, Scrum Master\nExperience in the setup and management of Continuous Integration pipelines\nExperience in database performance analysis and tuning\nExperience with cloud technologies\nFamiliarity with HIPAA requirements involving data storage and
