Civic Leadership Fellow
DCTMI seeks to hire a part-time Civic Leadership Fellow to assist on our Civic Dialogue Friendlies project (https://civicleadershipproject.org/civic-dialogue-friendlies/) as well as to be part of our DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative outreach team. The Civic Dialogue Friendlies will bring pairs of people with different political perspectives together for a series of 4+ weekly one-hour virtual conversations. The first sessions will focus on participants getting to know one another -- their values and significant life experiences. In the remaining sessions, participants will focus on the political issues that they care most about. They will do so through "The Co-Presidents Game": "The political parties have opted to select two ordinary citizens to represent them and you and your partner have been selected to serve as co-equal Presidents! Your job is to craft a policy agenda that works for both parties! We will support you with any research that you need." In the process, participants will get to explore how they think about policies, the sources of information they depend on, and the challenges and trade-offs that it takes to move the country forward.ResponsibilitiesPrimary activities include assistance with managing and onboarding participants, outreach and participant recruitment, event planning, facilitation support, and content creation (background public policy documents and facilitation guidance), and research on approaches that help people engage across differences. Secondary responsibilities include volunteer recruitment for tutoring and mentoring (typically on weekends), and participation on our weekly Thursday evening Civic Leadership development meetings (mostly by Zoom).QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to community service; a passion for our mission; excellent organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills; and strong attention to detail.Starting hourly rate will be $17-20/hour.OPTIONAL: Submit a cover letter detailing your interest and experience to docs@dctutormentor.org.
