Job SummaryExpeditor (Expo) Job DescriptionThe Expeditor (Expo) plays a critical role in ensuring smooth communication between the kitchen and front-of-house teams. This position is responsible for coordinating food orders, ensuring proper plating and presentation, maintaining quality standards, and facilitating timely service to guests.The Expo acts as the final checkpoint for food leaving the kitchen, confirming accuracy, quality, and completeness of each order while maintaining efficient service flow during busy periods.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.Essential ResponsibilitiesOrder Coordination & Service FlowReceive and organize incoming food orders from the point-of-sale systemCoordinate ticket flow between kitchen stations to ensure timely order preparationAct as the primary communication link between front-of-house and back-of-house teams during serviceEnsure orders are completed in the proper sequence and delivered according to service timing standardsConfirm that all items are properly entered and tracked through the POS systemFood Quality & PresentationInspect all dishes before leaving the kitchen to ensure they meet Iron Hill quality and presentation standardsVerify that plates are properly garnished, portioned, and prepared according to menu specificationsEnsure all components of each order are complete before releasing to food runners or serversAssist with final plate assembly and finishing touches when necessaryStation ManagementSet up, organize, and maintain the expo station for efficient serviceEnsure adequate supplies of plates, garnishes, condiments, and service itemsMaintain a clean and organized workspace throughout the shiftAssist with opening and closing procedures including restocking and general housekeeping tasksTeam SupportCommunicate clearly with kitchen staff, food runners, and servers to ensure smooth service executionCoordinate with managers or food runners when additional support is neededAssist with light food preparation, desserts, or finishing items when requiredDelegate tasks when appropriate to maintain efficient kitchen flowPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands listed below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (6+ hours per shift)Ability to lift and carry items up to 20–30 pounds, including plates, small equipment, and dishwareFrequent reaching, bending, and light lifting while assembling orders and stocking itemsAbility to carry and handle multiple plates of food safelyAbility to work in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environmentReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.QualificationsStrong communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate between front and back of house teamsAbility to prioritize tasks and manage multiple orders simultaneously in a fast-paced environmentStrong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality of every orderAbility to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstationAbility to lift up to 20 pounds safelyBasic math skills and order accuracy awarenessFamiliarity with restaurant POS and management systems preferredUnderstanding of food safety, sanitation, and restaurant safety proceduresAbility to obtain and maintain required food handler certification if applicableFriendly and professional interactions with all employees and guestsAbility to work collaboratively to maintain a positive and efficient service environmentStrong time management skills and ability to remain calm during busy service periodsCommunication & Language SkillsAbility to read, write, and communicate effectively in EnglishAbility to communicate clearly with kitchen staff, servers, managers, and guestsAbility to provide clear instructions and updates during service to support efficient operations
