The successful candidate will be able to immediately begin work on new projects, establish and document requirements, and work closely with small and large engineering teams to turn ideas into working hardware. Become part of a team dedicated to making a tangible contribution to our nation’s defense capabilities.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nPerforms mechanical design and analysis of optical payloads and spacecraft designs\n\nWorks with machine shop and vendors for hardware fabrication\n\nPerforms laboratory prototyping, assembly, and testing\n\nCommunicates effectively through written reports and presentations\n\nLeads, mentors, and collaborates with other engineers, both internally and externally\n\nManages schedule and tasking to meet and exceed expectations\n\nDevelops and presents at design reviews\n\nSupports and collaborates with program management, analysis, procurement, and manufacturing teams\n\nRequired Qualifications:\n\nBachelor’s degree in applicable technical field (e.g., mechanical engineering)\n\n5+ years of relevant experience\n\nProficient in the use of computer-aided design tools (NX preferred)\n\nAbility to perform first order layout and mass properties analyses\n\nAbility to perform structural and dynamic analyses to support the mechanical design evolution of spacecraft and components (FEMAP/Hypermesh/NASTRAN preferred)\n\nExperience designing and executing structural tests for spacecraft and components\n\nExperience supporting structural qualification testing on spacecraft systems and components including test design, test conduct, and interface equipment for unit under test\n\nExperience developing and documenting required design processes\n\nExperience writing technical plans and procedures\n\nTrack record of successfully working with and collaborating with teams of engineers\n\nAbility to communicate clearly with personnel of varying technical and professional backgrounds, including building presentation slides\n\nMust be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance\n\nMust be able to travel on a regular basis and work off-site for extended periods of time\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nMaster’s degree in mechanical engineering\n\n10-15 years of relevant experience\n\nActive TS/SCI security clearance\n\nExperience designing for space environment\n\nExperience in mechanical design of optical instruments, thermal vacuum cryogenic tests\n\nAbility to work in a laboratory environment with precision optical elements and instruments\n\nMechanism experience (flexures, motors, dampers, hinges, deployment, etc.)\n\nExperience in thermal and structural/dynamics analysis\n\nExperience in opto‑mechanical design of optical instruments\n\nExperience with Structural/Thermal/Optical/Performance (STOP) analysis\n\nExperience with composite build and analysis\n\nExperience with bolted joint analysis using NASA‑STD‑5020 methods\n\nExperience in random vibration and modal characterization of complex satellite assemblies\n\nSalary Range\n\n$84,500 - $155,500\n\nSalary commensurate on education and relevant experience\n\nThis range serves as a general guideline and may vary based on factors such as role, level, location, market conditions, and individual qualifications, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
