The future is here!What you'll do on a typical dayPart-time Instructor positions are available to teach High School Equivalency courses offered at the Davidson Men's Correctional Facility. Instructors are needed to teach courses in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies to help justice involved men to prepare for the High School Equivalency test. This position reports directly to the Get REAL Director or the Associate Dean for College and Career Readiness and has the following responsibilities:Promotes College mission, values, and visionTeaches high school equivalency courses to meet individual students' academic needsContextualizes math and English lessons to prepare the students for workEvaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedbackUses and promotes appropriate technology to enhance student learning outcomesCarries out a program of self-evaluation to determine instructional effectivenessAssists in the evaluation of courses and programsPrepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policyAttends appropriate College and School meetingsMaintains accessibility to students, faculty and staffPerforms other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the CollegeYour attributesRequired:Bachelor's degree from a federally accredited institutionAbility to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to changeCreativity and openness to changeStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong computer skills (including familiarity with MS Office 2010)Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environmentEffectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational actionCollaborating and facilitatingCreating and innovatingAnticipating and responding to changeProviding vision and leadershipAssessment of student learningEngagement and assessment of successful student retention modelsPreferred:Prior experience working with justice-involved individualsPrior experience teaching literacy and/or developmental skillsExperience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methodsWork environmentADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment in the collection, evaluation and analysis of data and student assessment, curriculum development, and program review; ease of mobility in supervising students in the clinical and classroom settings, assisting with patient care, carrying equipment, supplies and other instructional materials; travel between campus and clinical locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.
