RN - Medical Oncology Specialty Unit (Weekend)
Overview
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.
Qualifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
College Diploma: Nursing
Responsibilities
Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
Complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures; modify plan based on continuous evaluation.
Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
Communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues; offer constructive feedback to assist in professional development of peers and confer with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
Identify own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
Fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.
Appropriately perform patient care duties such as head‑to‑toe assessments, start IVs, insert NG tubes, dressing changes, administer medications, insert Foley catheters, access mediports and maintain the port throughout the shift.
Maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits.
Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy to patients not only on the oncology unit but also throughout the hospital.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $36.80 per hour to $59.89 per hour. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
