This position oversees financial reporting, property accounting, audits, tax and regulatory compliance, internal controls, cash management, and accounting staff, and ensures timely and accurate financial reporting to executive leadership, CSI’s Board of Directors, and all funding, lending, and investment partners.\n\nThe Corporate Controller is a key partner to the CFO and executive team and is a strategic financial leader who focuses on financial excellence, risk management, and process improvements in CSI’s dynamic business environment.\n\nEssential functions\n\nFinancial Leadership & Reporting\n\nWork closely with CSI’s Accounting Supervisor to oversee all accounting operations for all CSI entities to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.\nDevelop, maintain, and improve accounting policies and procedures.\nManage CSI’s payroll functions.\nIn collaboration with HR, manage processing of employee 401 K contributions and other direct employee benefits.\nPresent financial information to executive leadership and CSI’s board of directors.\nIn collaboration with Asset Management, monitor operating performance, cash flow, reserves, and key financial trends across CSI’s portfolio.\nManage CSI’s Certification Department to ensure regulatory compliance with all state and federal programs\nDevelop and manage CSI’s corporate budget.\n\n Accounting & Compliance\n\nEnsure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).\nSupervise accounting for all CSI entities.\nEnsure compliance with HUD, LIHTC, HOME, CDBG, and other affordable housing programs.\nReview monthly property financial statements and variance analyses.\nMonitor replacement reserves, residual receipts, operating reserves, and restricted funds for all CSI entities.\nCoordinate investor, lender, and regulatory reporting requirements.\n\nOversee property budget process in coordination with CSI’s Asset Management and Operations Departments.\nAcross all CSI entities, manage cash flow, reserves, and capital accounts\n\nAudit & Tax Coordination\n\nManage annual financial statement audits for all CSI entities.\nAct as the primary liaison and manage relationships with external auditors, tax preparers, consultants, and financial partners\nCoordinate audit requests, schedules, and supporting documentation.\nReview audited financial statements and management letters.\nEnsure timely completion of all tax filings and regulatory submissions.\n\nInternal Controls & Risk Management\n\nMaintain strong internal controls, ensure appropriate segregation of duties, and implement financial governance practices to safeguard all CSI assets.\nImplement and monitor accounting procedures to safeguard CSI assets.\nIdentify and mitigate financial and compliance risks.\nDevelop recommendations for operational and financial improvements.\nIn cooperation with CSI’s IT Department, manage CSI’s date security in compliance with internal policies and external agency requirements\n\nTeam Leadership\n\nLead, mentor, and develop accounting and certification staff.\nEstablish departmental goals and performance expectations.\nPromote a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.\nPartner effectively with development, asset management, property management, human resources, and executive leadership teams.\n\nSystems & Process Improvement\n\nManage accounting software (Yardi) usage, financial reporting systems, and related technologies.\nDrive process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.\nDevelop reporting tools and dashboards to improve financial decision-making.\n\nSupervisory responsibilities\n\nThe Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting and certification departments. This includes leadership, mentorship, developing and supporting the accounting and certification staff.\n\nWork environment\n\nThe Corporate Controller generally works in an office environment.\n\nPhysical demands\n\nThis position requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and significant amount of time on the phone.\n\n· Must be able to push/pull/lift up to 30 pounds\n\nTravel required\n\n· Reliable transportation.\n\n· May need to travel to co-ops on occasion.\n\nRequired education and experience\n\nBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.\nEight (8) or more years of accounting & management experience.\nStrong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.\nExperience managing multiple legal entities and complex reporting structures.\nAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems.\nExceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.\nExperience with and thorough understanding of:\nHUD, Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), and Section 8 funded housing\nHOME and CDBG funding\nReal estate development accounting\nProperty management accounting systems (Yardi)\nStrong leadership and supervisory capabilities.\nAbility to manage competing priorities and deadlines.\nHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.\nCommitment to the mission of affordable housing and nonprofit service.\n\nWork authorization/security clearance requirements\n\nDepartment of Homeland Security (DHS) regulation requires all employees—citizens, residents, and nonresidents—to complete Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.
