What’s the role?The Principal IM Engineer lead’s the definition, execution, and governance of Information Management (IM) for capital projects, ensuring alignment with business IM strategy, business priorities, and (industry) standards. The role is accountable for embedding IM requirements into project execution and contracts, ensures robust data and document governance, enables Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) build and operations-ready information, and drives digital innovation through data-centric and IM solutions. It ensures seamless information handover across lifecycle phases, enforces IM compliance and data quality, and strengthens IM capability and succession within the organization.What You’ll Be DoingAccountable for implementing the business IM strategy, for the definition and execution of the business/function IM plan, for IM succession planning and people developmentActs as the primary point of contact for the business on Information Management, advising on the effective use of the full suite of IM solutionsChampions change management to enable smooth deployment and adoption of Information Management platforms and digital solutionsCoordinates with support functions and project teams for the configuration and implementation of an integrated set of data-centric solutions such as Digital Twins, engineering design tools, vendor catalogues, 4D & 5D construction management, track-and-trace solutions, and commissioning toolsResponsible for the development, steer, and execution of IM strategies, roadmaps, plans, and support required to meet business needs and develop IM maturityDevelop and maintain the Project IM Strategy and the IM Plan ensuring compliance with the relevant standards and solutions e.g. Design and Engineering Practices (DEP) Engineering Information Specification (EIS)Provide IM input to the Project Execution Strategy (PES) and later to the Project Execution Plan (PEP). Develop and implement IM general guidelines and procedures for the owner’s project team, design / execution contractors and equipment vendors for the relevant Opportunity Realisation Process (ORP) phasesProduce and implement the Project Information Specification and the IM Discipline Delivery PlanEnsure that the IM requirements are included in the design/execution contracts through the contract-specific IM Scope of Work and Information SpecificationContribute to the Prequalification and ITT packages and to the evaluation of bids Ensure that the IM requirements are implemented by contractors and that the compliance is tested regularlyFacilitate provision of the document/data control services at all of the Capital Project’s locations including e.g. home office, engineering offices and construction sitesSignals shortcomings and inconsistencies in processes and proceduresAssist in the management of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) buildDevelop a Handover Plan and facilitate the effective handover of the project information and any related tools between the major execution contractors (e.g. from individual Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPCs) to an Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management (EPcM), between the contractors and the owner’s project team and eventually, handover to the Operations teamAt each project phase undertake the IM-related mandatory assurance activities for that phase as defined in the companies standards/assurance plansIdentifies and delivers bottom-line value to the business through the support in implementing innovative new IM solutions, and harvesting of existing IM assets to enable business strategy delivery, value drivers and KPIs. Ensures that business Information requirements (as dictated by business processes) are fulfilledWhat You BringMust have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employerBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a business discipline15+ years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years as an IM Lead on a flagship capital projectExperience in the oil & gas industry or strong knowledge of the businessStrong Information Management expertise, including leadership of Data and/or Document Control and related processes and systems on Major Capital Projects, Assets and of EPC interface managementHands‑on experience with IM tools and platforms such as Bentley products, ASSAI, Power BI, EDW, and EDMSProven Project‑to‑Asset (P2A) and Asset‑to‑Project (A2P) experience, including IM handovers, OR&A support, and CMMS build alignmentKnowledge of the legal and compliance aspects of information management including General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), security, privacy, intellectual property, and digital governanceExperience implementing integrated, data‑centric solutions (e.g., Digital Twin, engineering design tools, vendor catalogues, construction and commissioning systems)Demonstrated project and interface management experience across Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), EPC, and EPCM modelsExposure to upstream and/or downstream project environments (preferred)Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and written and verbal communication skillsWhat We OfferThe base salary range for this position is $149,000 - $223,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
