Inventory Control Specialist
INVENTORY CONTROL SPECIALIST
Department: Production
Reports To: Production Manager / Supply Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY
The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels, ensuring
material availability to support production, and enforcing proper material handling practices. This role
will track inventory movement, investigate discrepancies, and support continuous improvement of
inventory accuracy throughout the facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Inventory Management & Control
Maintain accurate counts of raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and consumables.
Perform scheduled cycle counts and full physical inventories.
Investigate count variances and report root causes.
Monitor shelf-life and manage non-conforming, obsolete, or scrap inventory.
Material Movement
Issue materials to jobs/work orders in the ERP/MRP system.
Stage materials for production and ensure proper labeling.
Receive, log, and put away incoming goods using established procedures.
Return unused materials to proper locations and update records.
Data & System Utilization
Perform transactions in ERP/MRP systems (issues, transfers, adjustments).
Run reports to identify shortages, slow movers, or overstock.
Maintain part location master records.
Communication & Support
Collaborate with production, purchasing, shipping/receiving, and quality departments.
Communicate shortages or delays proactively.
Assist in developing improved storage layouts and procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training preferred.
2+ years of inventory, warehouse, or material handling experience (manufacturing preferred).
Strong understanding of ERP/MRP system transactions.
Basic knowledge of lean principles (5S, waste reduction).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to read job travelers, BOMs, and work orders.
Forklift certification or ability to obtain one.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Stand/walk for extended periods.
Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders as needed.
Operate material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, cart).
