Travel RN - ICU
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position at a Level III trauma facility in Council Bluffs, IA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with drips and ventilators on a 12-hour night shift schedule.Job Details• Acute care ICU setting at a Level III trauma facility,• 16-bed Medical ICU unit with a 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio,• Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, MI, DKA, STEMI, A-fib with RVR, PE, COPD exacerbation, and COVID,• Charge nurse present on every shift and also takes a patient assignment,• No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit,• Hospitalist available in-house 24/7; intensivist on-site during day hours and available via telemedicine at night,• Respiratory therapy is shared with the ED and is not dedicated to the ICU,• Centralized telemetry monitor techs read strips remotely; nurses must be able to read and verify their own strips,• Draeger telemetry monitors used on the unit,• Charting via Epic (experience required),• 12-hour night shifts, 1830-0700,• Every third weekend required,• July 4th holiday coverage required,• No on-call or standby requirement,• Floating to the PCU (Progressive Care Unit) may be required if census is low in the ICU,• 1 shift of ICU-specific orientation and 1 shift of PCU orientation provided,• 13-week contract,Job Requirements• Active IA RN license or a Compact (NLC) RN license; must be active at time of consideration - pending licenses not accepted,• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications not accepted,• PALS and TNCC preferred,• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred,• Prior travel nursing experience preferred,• Proficiency with drips including vasopressors and sedation agents (e.g., levophed, neosynephrine, cardene, precedex, propofol); RNs are required to titrate drips,• Experience with mechanical ventilators and non-invasive respiratory support (BiPAP, CPAP),• Ability to read and verify cardiac monitor strips,• Epic EMR experience required,• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence is outside the 50-mile radius),Additional Information• Nurses are responsible for titrating vasopressors and sedation drips; RT manages all ventilator and respiratory equipment adjustments,• A pass/fail open-book exam on ICU skills is administered during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass - failure may result in contract termination,• Navy blue scrubs required,• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination,• Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address,• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered,• Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
