We are looking for talented technicians and engineers who want to build, program, commission, and support innovative automation systems serving a wide range of industries and applications.About the RoleAs a Mechatronics Technician on the Automation team, you will help take automated CO₂ snow spray cleaning cells from concept to customer site. You will build, wire, program, test, install, and service integrated systems that combine CO₂ delivery, spray nozzles, motion (robots, gantries, conveyors, rotary stages), sensors, safety circuits, and PLC/HMI controls. You will be hands-on in our Minnesota shop most of the time, and on-site at customer facilities in North America and abroad roughly 20% of the year for installation, commissioning, training, and service. This is a role for someone who is equally comfortable with a torque wrench, a multimeter, and a laptop running PLC and robot software — and who enjoys seeing an automated cell they helped build actually run in production.ResponsibilitiesBuild and wire automated cells — Assemble mechanical subsystems, route pneumatics and CO₂ plumbing, and wire control panels, safety circuits, sensors, valves, and motion hardware from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.Program and configure controls — Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic, HMI screens, robot programs, vision setups, and motion profiles for CO₂ snow spray applications across varied part geometries and cleaning requirements.Integrate CO₂ process hardware — Install and tune snow-spray nozzles, CO₂ supply lines, regulators, heaters, and process instrumentation, and verify safe, repeatable spray performance.Test and qualify systems — Execute factory acceptance testing (FAT), functional checks, safety verification, and cleaning-performance validation before shipment; capture results in structured test records.Install and commission at customer sites — Travel domestically and internationally (roughly 20% of the year) to uncrate, install, start up, and hand off automated cells; train customer operators and maintenance staff.Service and support — Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and controls issues in the shop and in the field; support customers by phone, video, and remote connection.Contribute to design improvement — Feed field and build learnings back to engineering to improve reliability, serviceability, cycle time, and cost of the next generation of automated cells.Document what you do — Maintain accurate as-built drawings, wiring changes, program versions, test records, and service reports.QualificationsAssociate’s degree in mechatronics, electromechanical technology, automation, robotics, or a closely related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.Required SkillsHigh proficiency using standard hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, and precision measuring instruments to build, align, fit, and tear down complex mechanical assemblies and frame structures.2+ years physically building, mechanically assembling, wiring, or servicing industrial automated equipment (machine builder, OEM integrator, or in-house automation experience all count).Hands-on ability to read and work from electrical schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings.Working experience with at least one major PLC platform (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar) and HMI development.Comfort with industrial sensors, pneumatics, motor control (VFDs, servos, steppers), and safety circuits (light curtains, e-stops, safety relays/controllers).Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally roughly 20% of the time, including holding or being able to obtain a valid US passport.Strong troubleshooting instincts, disciplined documentation habits, and the ability to work independently at a customer site.Preferred SkillsExperience programming or integrating industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, UR, or similar) and/or Cartesian/gantry motion systems.Experience with machine vision, barcode/traceability, and OPC UA / Ethernet/IP / Profinet networking.Experience with basic machining (mill, lathe) or light fabrication (drilling, tapping, bracket alteration) for on-site field modifications.Experience with pressurized gas or cryogenic systems, precision cleaning, spray/coating, or similar process equipment.Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 13849 / IEC 62061) and CE marking for machines shipped internationally.Ability to communicate professionally with customer engineering and maintenance teams in a training or commissioning setting.Nice to haveFrench, Spanish, or another second language useful for international commissioning.Experience with ERP-based work orders and BOM-driven builds (SAP, ERPNext, or similar).Physical and Work EnvironmentShop and lab environment with occasional exposure to compressed gases, cold surfaces from CO₂, and standard machine-shop hazards; PPE provided and required.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders and lifts, and spend extended time on your feet during builds and installations.Travel by air and ground to customer sites, including international destinations; occasional non-standard hours during commissioning and service events.Compensation and BenefitsCompetitive hourly pay: $28–$34 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skills in industrial automation, controls, robotics, electrical systems, and pressure/process instrumentation. Candidates with strong PLC/robot programming experience combined with hands-on machine-build and commissioning experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.Overtime and travel compensation: Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable federal and Minnesota law. Eligible business travel time is compensated in accordance with applicable law and company policy.
