Special Education Assistant Director

GRANBURY ISD requires three references from former employers, college professors, supervisors, etc. with at least a minimum of two references being from previous supervisors. Granbury ISD will not accept references from friends or family members.PRIMARY PURPOSE:Assist in directing the district's special education and 504 programs to ensure provision of services for special education and 504 students. Monitor delivery of individualized education and 504 plans to meet the needs of identified students and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and local requirements.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Master's degreeAppropriate administrative Texas CertificateValid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsementSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Understanding of the individual needs of students with disabilitiesAbility to communicate with all levels of students with disabilities and their parentsAbility to interpret policy, procedures, and dataAbility to manage budget and personnelAbility to coordinate district professional developmentStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Five years teaching experience in special education (preferred)Three years special education administrative or supervisory experience (preferred)MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Supervision of special education and 504 programs such as homebound, speech therapy, related services and other identified special education programs and servicesMonitor special education teachers and paraprofessionals to ensure that student progress is evaluated on a systematic basis, and that the findings are used to make special education programs more effectiveEnsure that special education support staff implements program improvement efforts that are consistent with federal and state lawEncourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriateEnsure that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needsEncourage and support the development and implementation of effective instructional programs to achieve identified needsEnsure that staff development is consistent with special education program needsObtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge special education program effectivenessPerform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special ProgramsStudent ManagementEstablish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issuesPolicy, Reports, and LawOffer constructive suggestions to ensure that policies, state, and federal regulations support the teaching/learning process for studentsImplement the policies established by federal and state law, Commissioner of Education rules, and local board policy in area of special educationPersonnel ManagementSecure consultants, specialists and other community resources for superintendent, principals,and instructional staff to assist in attaining objectivesDevelop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary operations in thespecial education areaConference regularly with assigned staff to discuss performance, jointly develop improvementobjectives, and identify professional development and teaching opportunitiesEffectively coach staff, providing technical assistance to principals, teachers, and encourage improved overall performanceSupervise the districts' speech/language pathologists, related service personnel, homebound program, and coordinate the duties of the special education bilingual interpreter/translator with campusesCommunication and Community RelationsServe as district liaison to community agencies providing services to students and notify parents and students of available servicesDemonstrate openness and willingness to listen to parents and community membersDemonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needsDemonstrate a commitment to the mission of the district as it is communicated to the publicWORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands/Physical/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress.
