Safety Manager
STS Packaging, a Schwarz Partners, L.P. Joint Venture company, is currently seeking a Safety Manager in Mooresville, IN. This position provides proactive leadership, strategic direction, and support to the STS - Mooresville facility in the area of Safety. Under the direction of the facility Plant Manager, the Safety Manager will inspire, lead, and execute strategic initiatives for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health and safety programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees within the operations of the facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Follow all safety and company policies, reporting any issues, accidents, or incidents immediately; must complete online safety training each month as assigned; complete monthly behavior and audit cards
Develop, implement, maintain, and communicate safety strategies and programs throughout the organization; Investigate complaints and non-conformance issues
Manage and coordinate all work-related injury/incident/accident and lead investigation, report findings to plant leadership – work to review situation and cite comparators if it involves a safety violation
Coordinate activities and facilitate interactions during regulatory agency, notified third party and customer audits; responsible for respective communication and documentation to management
Facilitate monthly safety committee meetings and team safety meetings; lead and direct members of the committee in investigation of work-related incidents and safety programs and initiatives; train and facilitate the principles of safety with team
Responsible for assigning/reporting monthly safety training topics/materials and safety audits to Supervisors; coordinate and work with team on plant audits
Work in conjunction with Human Resources to conduct new hire safety training
Monitor completion of monthly online safety training, behavior cards/audits; work with Human Resources to maintain online safety training website
Provide leadership, consultation, and advice to all departments on issues related to safety at plant level
Identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet safety standards
Proficient ability to interpret and implement policies in accordance with federal state and local regulatory requirements, in addition to company policies and procedures
I would also add computer skills to operate and function with online database systems to deliver and track employee training and injury management systems
Set an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance in safety
Regular and predictable attendance; must be visible and support all three shifts. Weekend work as scheduled
Perform duties as back up production supervisor as required
Conform to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures and policies to assure products are suitable for food contact
Responsible for reporting any product quality or food safety issues to the Quality Manager (SQF Practitioner) or Management Team memberCore Competencies: Customer Focus, Action Oriented, Decision Quality, Functional/Technical Skills, Integrity and Trust, Peer Relationships

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years combined of technical, manufacturing, and/or quality management experience preferably in a printing, converting, or other flexible packaging operation or a combination of education and experience preferred.
Experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing TQM, ISO, Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma is preferred.
Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance is required. Knowledge and the ability to be the facility’s SQF Practitioner is preferred.
Proven technical leadership with the ability to utilize structured problem-solving methods to deliver results.
Demonstrated competence to work and communicate effectively with all levels in the organization.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, with willingness and ability to learn new systems.
