This role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, account reconciliations, and oversight of accounting activity related to motor carrier payments and transportation transactions.\n\nThe ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with an ability to excel in the fast-paced, high-volume nature of freight brokerage. This position will work closely with the Controller and other members of the accounting department to assist in closing procedures, resolve transaction discrepancies, and provide reliable information for business decisions.\n\nESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES\nAssist in month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.\nMaintain general ledger accuracy and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policies.\nReconcile freight revenue, carrier costs, gross margins, and shipment-level activity between the transportation management system and accounting platform.\nInvestigate and resolve billing, payment, margin, and data discrepancies in partnership with operations and accounting teams.\nAssist with customer and carrier account reconciliations and escalated payment issues.\nSupport annual audits, tax filings, lender reporting, and requests from external accountants.\nAssist with cash flow management and forecasting.\nIdentify opportunities to automate accounting processes and improve data accuracy across financial and transportation systems.\nMentor and manage accounting team members as assigned.\nPerform other accounting and financial duties as needed.\n\nEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED\n\nBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.\nAt least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end close and general ledger accounting.\nStrong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.\nHigh level of accuracy and attention to detail.\nStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced, transaction-heavy environment.\nEffective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work across various teams within the organization. Strong interpersonal skills a must.\nExperience with ERP or accounting software and the ability to learn new systems quickly.\nProficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office suite tools.\nSkilled in Great Plains Dynamics is a plus with experience in the transportation/logistic industry.\n\nOTHER DUTIES\n\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
