Designed for the world's largest organizations with the most complex requirements, CloudBees enables software development organizations to deliver scalable, compliant, governed, and secure software from the code a developer writes to the people who use it. The platform connects with other best-of-breed tools, improves the developer experience, and enables organizations to bring digital innovation to life continuously, adapt quickly, and unlock business outcomes that create market leaders and disruptors.\n\nCloudBees was founded in 2010 and is backed by Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Bridgepoint Credit, HSBC, Golub Capital, Delta-v Capital, Matrix Partners, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Visit www.cloudbees.com and follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.\n\nAbout the Role\n\nThe CloudBees platform is the foundation everything else is built on. When it works well, engineers ship faster, customers trust us more, and the product compounds. When it doesn't, every team feels it. This is that team — and this role matters.\n\nWe are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team. You will be part of an engineering team comprising front-end, back-end, and full-stack software engineers doing agile development. You bring deep back-end engineering expertise and, just as importantly, a product mindset — you understand that platform is a product, and the quality of your abstractions directly determines what everyone else can build.\n\nYou are past the point of needing your work scoped for you. You write production-quality code, you design systems that others will build on for years, and you have the judgment to know when to optimize for speed and when to optimize for correctness. You are fluent in the tradeoffs of distributed systems, curious about how the platform affects the full software delivery lifecycle, and committed to leaving things better than you found them.\n\nRequirements:\n\nWhat You'll Do\n\nOwn the platform foundation\n\nDesign, build, and maintain high-throughput, resilient backend services and APIs that power the CloudBees platform across cloud and hybrid environments.\nDevelop and own microservices using Golang, ensuring they are performant, observable, and built for long-term maintainability.\nPartner with frontend engineers and platform architects to define and implement clean API contracts (REST, gRPC, GraphQL) that enable great developer experiences.\nContribute to the design and evolution of our data layer — including relational (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Cassandra), and streaming (Kafka/NATs) systems.\n\nThink like a product engineer\n\nBe the voice of the customer in every technical discussion. Understand how they use the platform, what slows them down, and what would unlock the most value — then build it.\nBring a product lens to your technical work: participate in roadmap discussions, question assumptions, and advocate for platform investments that have outsized downstream leverage.\nCollaborate with product managers and engineers across the org to understand how platform decisions ripple outward — into CI/CD behavior, developer experience, compliance posture, and customer outcomes.\nWrite documentation, runbooks, and internal guides that make the platform understandable and self-serviceable for the teams that depend on it.\n\nRaise the bar for engineering quality\n\nWrite clean, testable, well-documented code. Set the standard for what good looks like on your team.\nInstrument your services from day one — meaningful metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing — and use observability data to drive continuous improvement.\nLead and participate in design reviews, architecture decisions, and code review with rigor and constructive honesty.\nMentor peers and contribute to a culture of shared ownership, psychological safety, and engineering craftsmanship.\n\nYou May Be a Good Fit If\n\nYour background\n\nYou have 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and operating production services in a B2B SaaS environment.\nYou have strong proficiency in Golang — you understand the language deeply, not just the syntax.\nYou have hands-on experience with distributed systems: microservices, event-driven architecture, service mesh, and the failure modes that come with them.\nYou have 3+ years working with our tech stack or equivalent: Kubernetes, NATs, REST/gRPC/GraphQL APIs, AWS and/or GCP, and relational or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Cassandra).\nYou have experience with identity and access management at a systems level — authentication flows, authorization models, JWTs, SAML, OIDC, multi-tenancy patterns.\n\nYour mindset\n\nYou think holistically about how your work fits into the larger system — and you actively seek to understand the customer, product, and business context around what you build.\nYou have a product engineering instinct: you're not satisfied shipping something that works technically if it doesn't serve the people using it well.\nYou are comfortable with ambiguity and can navigate competing priorities, make sound technical decisions with incomplete information, and communicate your reasoning clearly.\nYou care about the developer experience your platform creates — clean APIs, predictable behavior, fast onboarding, and minimal surprise.\nYou take ownership seriously. You don't wait to be asked to fix things, improve documentation, or flag risks.\n\nStrong candidates may also\n\nExperience integrating AI/ML capabilities or LLM-powered features into production backend services.\nFamiliarity with agentic frameworks (LangChain, CrewAI) or MCP-enabled tooling.\nContributions to open-source projects, particularly in the Jenkins or broader DevOps ecosystem.\nExperience with IdP solutions such as Keycloak.\nPrior work in DevSecOps, compliance engineering, or regulated enterprise environments (SOC 2, FedRAMP).\nBA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.\n\nWhat You'll Get\n\nHighly competitive compensation, equity, and benefits package.\nThe opportunity to work on systems that power software delivery for some of the world's largest engineering organizations.\nA collaborative team that takes craft seriously and invests in each other's growth.\nDirect exposure to product strategy, architectural decision-making, and a front-row seat to how a leading enterprise DevSecOps platform is built.\nHybrid culture with team outings and in-person collaboration.\nEndless growth opportunities at a company backed by Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and other top-tier investors.\nCompensation & Benefits\nBase Pay Range: $135,000 – $170,000 annually In accordance with applicable law, this represents a reasonable estimated compensation range for this role. Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location and may be more or less than the amount shown above. Outside of base compensation, CloudBees also offers stock options and variable bonuses.\nWhat CloudBees Offers:\nHealth Insurance\nDental Insurance\nVision Insurance\nShort & Long Term Disability\nLife Insurance\nHSA/FSA\nFlexible Time Off\nPaid Company Holidays\nParental Leave\nVariable Bonus Plan dependent on your role\nStock grant opportunities dependent on your role\n401(k) with Company Match\nEEO Statement\n\nCloudBees is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
