The position is responsible for operating a variety of equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including backhoe equipment and other related machinery.\r\nEssential Job DutiesControls and actively participates in labor related activities on job sites during various stages of the project to ensure the accurate completion of the project.\r\nOperates a backhoe in a safe manner.\r\nCommunicates with crew while on the job site, including the use of radios, hand signals, or other necessary forms of communication.\r\nProvides clean-up operations behind a milling machine to help dump millings from skid steer, broom tractor or ground into its proper place such as a dump truck.\r\nManipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of backhoe on roadways and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, highways, etc.\r\nRemoves roadway reflectors from roadway in front of milling machine.\r\nRemoves excess asphalt/concrete around manholes and water valves that a milling machine cannot reach.\r\nWhile on a job site, may be responsible for appropriately marking manholes and water valves with spray paint to be avoided by the milling machine.\r\nMay be responsible for a variety of additional duties, such as working with a milling machine on job sites, and is responsible for:\r\nactively communicating with the employee operating the machine;\r\nensuring the milling machine is clear of any debris or objects it could potentially hit, including remove millings that could hinder the operation of the machine;\r\nassisting with changing carbide teeth in milling machine drum;\r\ngreasing the machine; and\r\nmaintaining the correct cutting depth.\r\nMay also be responsible for working with a clean-up crew on job sites, responsible for assisting equipment operators to ensure loose particles are removed from the milled and roadway surfaces using shovels, brooms or other methods to achieve a cleaned surface.\r\nOther duties may include helping with traffic control set-up and taking down and tending a slow/stop sign to maintain safe public and worker travel through the work zone, loading and unloading equipment (including equipment from trucks), shovels dirt, gravel, and other materials.\r\nMay performs work with all hand tools including but not limited to pneumatic or traditional hammers, drills, impact guns and grease guns.\r\nMay operate a variety of heavy mechanical equipment that requires technical expertise or specialized training. Heavy mechanical equipment in addition to a water truck include but not limited to water trucks, milling machines, backhoes, skid steers, and broom tractors in a safe and efficient manner.\r\nPerforms routine maintenance on backhoe and other equipment, including greasing the machine, changing cutting edges, carbide teeth, changing oil, air filter replacements, etc.).\r\nAdvises the Foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.\r\nEnsure Company machines, equipment, vehicles, and tools and washed, cleaned and securely stored.\r\nResponsible for informing management of any safety concerns; adheres to safety and work performance standards to comply with OSHA, company and other agency regulations.\r\nMaintains ability to travel up to 100% of time to various job sites, possibly including extended overnight stays.\r\nMaintains regular and punctual attendance.\r\nComplete special projects as required.\r\nRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.\r\nA minimum of one (1) year of direct work related experience.\r\nWorking knowledge of heavy equipment, processes, and safety protocols.\r\nValid CDL (Class A or B) preferred.\r\nValid driver license and acceptable motor vehicle record.\r\nKnowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and current OSHA rules and regulations and ensuring compliance with these guidelines.\r\nAbility to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather and under various working conditions.\r\nProven effective oral and written communication skills, job planning skills and mechanical aptitude are a must.\r\nExcellent attendance record and commitment to maintain the same.\r\nAbility to work Monday through Sunday and overtime as required (including irregular hours, out of town work, overnight stays, weekends and holidays).\r\nOvernight travel during high seasonal periods typically includes full work week, possibly including Saturdays/weekends. Employees typically return home for the weekend while traveling, but schedule may limit employee's ability to return home to every other weekend.
