Auditor - Hand Hygiene Compliance
Job Summary: This part-time role involves monitoring and evaluating hand hygiene practices among healthcare workers to ensure adherence to infection prevention standards. The auditor collects data through direct observation, offers constructive feedback to staff for improvement, and uploads audit information for reporting purposes. This position is designed to create a pool of auditors available for weekend and evening shifts. Essential ResponsibilitiesObservation and Data Collection: Perform direct observations of hand hygiene practices by staff, patients, and visitors across various clinical environments. Observe a range of healthcare professionals including nurses, therapists, physicians, surgeons, and support personnel. Utilize electronic devices or paper audit sheets to accurately document techniques and compliance rates. Compliance Monitoring: Evaluate hand hygiene adherence at individual, departmental, unit, and shift levels. Identify areas for improvement in the use of soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizers. Ensure compliance with established guidelines such as those from the CDC, WHO, and Leapfrog. Feedback and Education: Provide immediate, constructive feedback to healthcare workers to encourage behavior change and enhance quality improvement efforts. Reporting: Accurately document collected data in required applications to support reporting and further analysis. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and AttributesTechnical Proficiency: Comfortable using electronic devices, paper audit tools, and data entry software such as Excel. Observational Skills: Ability to conduct thorough and objective observations to ensure accurate and unbiased data collection. Interpersonal Skills: Skilled at providing constructive feedback and engaging staff in a positive manner to promote improvement. Training: Completion of approved auditor training and validation at hire, with annual revalidation to maintain current knowledge of audit practices. Education and ExperienceMinimum education requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent. A clinical background is preferred but not mandatory. This position is located in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
