As lead designer, responsibilities will include total delivery of the electrical and instrumentation deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Duties may include performing advanced design work serving as a technical specialist for a complex design assignment. This level requires extensive progressive experience in electrical and instrumentation design and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under minimal supervision in Meraux, LA.\nPrimary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:\nResponsible for the constructability, operability, and maintainability of the design within his/her discipline for the assigned project.\nProvides comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective technical input into design related to his/her discipline for assigned projects.\nResponsible for the preparation of detailed design drawings within his/her discipline, in accordance with engineering design, required as project deliverables.\nProvides continual guidance to drafters within his/her discipline for assigned projects.\nCommunicates and coordinates with Lead Designer for respective discipline to promote smooth, accurate, and scheduled completion of deliverables.\nMaintains and keeps organizes a Job Data Book which contains all the pertinent information used during the design for his/her discipline for an assigned project.\nReviews drawings within his/her discipline for assigned projects on a regular basis for completeness, overall quality, and adherence to standards.\nEnsures all drawings within his/her discipline for assigned projects have been properly checked and backchecked.\nPrepares and/or directs the preparation of final drawing plots and copies for transmittal relative to all project deliverables.\nPossesses an awareness of project schedule and budget.\nAssists with Project Audits when required.\nAbility to utilize conventional drafting tools and CAD software to execute drafting requirements\nIdeal Background\nEducation: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.\nExperience: Requires 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design.\nFamiliarity with the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).\nAbility to perform lighting level calculations.\nAbility to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.\nAbility to perform voltage drop calculations.\nAbility to route conduit and cable tray.\nAbility to calculate tray and conduit fill.\nAble to determine motor control center loading.\nFamiliarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.\nAbility to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.\nAbility to determine load center unit substation loading.\nKnowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines.\nKnowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.\nAbility to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.\nAbility to determine load center unit substation loading.\nAbility to develop equipment specifications for 480VAC equipment such as, motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc. with engineering review and approval.\nAbility to produce a 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.\nFamiliarity with 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.\nAbility to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment such as, switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc. and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings with engineering review and approval.\nAbility to develop electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval.\nAbility to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.\nAbility to determine construction material quantities.\nDeveloping design criteria and scope of work.\nForecasting hours to complete professional services.\nDeveloping staffing plans based on deliverables to be produced and the project schedule.\nIdentifying information required and proactively obtaining it.\nCoordinating with other disciplines regarding design development, changes, etc.\nKnowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.\nProgramming experience with Programmable Logic controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and/or Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment. Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.\nAbility to coordinate with the process group to provide efficient equipment layouts and space usage.\nAbility to deliver presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.\nProficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.\nProficient in the use of 2D AutoCAD and Microstation. 3D AutoCAD desirable.
