The successful candidate will work closely with structural engineers and other design professionals to translate engineering concepts and design criteria into accurate, constructible drawings.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDevelop and revise structural drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD and/or REVIT\nAssist with development of structural plans, elevations, sections, details, and related design documentation\nSupport the design and detailing of buildings and other infrastructure\nTranslate engineering concepts, sketches, calculations, and markups into accurate design drawings\nWork closely with structural engineers and other project team members to support design development\nLearn and apply applicable DOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, building codes, and other project specific requirements\nPerform quality control reviews of drawings and design documents prepared by others\nMaintain organized project files and follow established CAD and corporate design standards\nSupport project schedules, deadlines, and coordination with internal teams\nParticipate in training and professional development to expand structural design capabilities\nPerform other duties as assigned to support project and department needs including site visits and field inspections\n\nQualifications\n\nAssociate's degree or technical certification in CAD, Drafting, or related field (or equivalent experience)\n0–8+ years of structural design or drafting experience\nExperience with AutoCAD preferred\nExperience with REVIT required\nDemonstrated experience supporting building projects\nFamiliarity with structural drawings, construction documents, or engineering plans preferred\nAbility to interpret engineering sketches, markups, specifications, and design criteria\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work\nAbility to learn new software, technical standards, and design processes\nStrong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills\nAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nFamiliarity with structural detailing for buildings and other infrastructure\nExperience preparing structural construction documents\nTechnical degree or coursework in civil/structural engineering technology, drafting, or a related discipline\nInterest in developing long-term career in structural design\n\nWhy Join Thompson Engineering?\n\nEmployee-owned company (ESOP) - your work directly contributes to shared success\nOpportunity to work on impactful transportation and infrastructure projects across the Gulf Coast\nCollaborative environment with strong technical teams\nOpportunities for professional growth and leadership development\n\nPhysical RequirementsWork Environment\n\nPrimarily office-based with occasional field visits as needed\nAbility to sit for extended periods and work at a computer\n\nAbout Thompson Engineering\n\nFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering provides quality assurance and professional services for construction projects supporting industrial, infrastructure, and community development.
