Head of Research Development

DescriptionHead of Research DevelopmentResponsible for managing and directing all research and development activities for the organization. This includes developing and implementing research and development procedures, overseeing the development of new products and technologies, and ensuring that all research and development projects are completed on time and within budget. The Head of Research and Development will also coordinate with other departments to ensure that all research and development activities align with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research and development, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of managing successful projects.Role And ResponsibilitiesProjects and development will be heavily focused on manufacturing of protein-based products and process developmentThis role requires in-depth testing of product formulations with various manufacturing equipment vendors/suppliers to identify optimal product formulas, equipment, and manufacturing procedures for quality and cost efficiencyWork cross-functionally with the project team to build a production operation including people, plant, process, and productsExecute small-scale and large-scale plant tests - Effective scale-up from R&D to Full ProductionCreate and manage product specifications, maintain accurate records, and analyze reportsUtilize working knowledge of plant processes and facilitiesProvide onsite monitoring and technical assistance during testing and manufacturing of new productsSuccessful commercialization of new products within timeline and budgetCollaborate with cross-functional teams to implement formulations, manufacturing processes, and commissioning of new equipment and production linesPerform other duties as assignedLeadership ResponsibilitiesLead and develop the R&D team, including direct oversight of 4+ team membersRequirementsRequired Qualifications and Education10+ years of experience preferred, with 5+ years managing mid- to large-scale manufacturing environments supporting multi-plant operationsExperience in protein or food processing environments preferredStrong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detailProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointSelf-starter with the ability to take ownership of projects and deliver results with minimal oversightStrong collaboration, organization, and prioritization skillsDemonstrated technical competence in R&D and creative problem-solving abilityAbility to interact effectively across manufacturing, lab, and office environmentsCore Competencies, Knowledge, And SkillsAnalytical Thinking: Ability to identify problems, analyze data, and develop effective solutionsCommunication: Clearly conveys information and actively listens to othersCustomer and Personal Service: Understands customer needs and quality standardsOrganization: Effectively prioritizes workload and adapts to changing prioritiesWork Environment And Physical RequirementsPrimarily office-based environmentExtended periods of sittingFrequent use of hands and communication abilitiesVision requirements include close, distance, and color visionOccasional lifting up to 20 poundsModerate to loud noise levels depending on work area
