As a Technical Manager you will self–perform and direct project teams in the planning and design of transportation structures, serving as a subject‑matter expert and providing technical advice to staff to ensure the successful execution of projects and help grow the Illinois Structural group.\n\nLocation\nThis hybrid role will be based in either the Chicago, IL or Naperville, IL office.\n\nKey Projects\n\nIDOT – I‑39 Reconstruction Project: designing multiple new bridge structures along the reconstructed corridor, including a complex Ramp BD over US 20 bridge – a three‑span continuous steel curved plate girder structure with steel straddle bent piers.\n\nCDOT – 100th Street Bascule Bridge Rehabilitation Project: developing a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for this historic structure, including complete replacement of the truss structure over the river.\n\nCity of Elgin – Kimball Street Bridge over Fox River Reconstruction Project: completing preliminary design for the full reconstruction of the existing 11‑span bridge with a new five‑span continuous steel haunched girder structure, incorporating a new grade‑separated multi‑use path crossing of the Fox River Trail.\n\nElk Grove Village – Arlington Heights Road Pedestrian Bridge Project: creating a new grade‑separated connection to the Busse Woods Forest Preserve with a 850‑ft curved steel and concrete structure, featuring a 140‑ft steel V‑frame crossing over the roadway and aesthetic enhancements throughout.\n\nContractor Engineering – providing demolition and erection plans for complex structures, including highly skewed steel and concrete spans along the Illinois Tollway; steel plate girder river crossings over 300 ft; and signature tied‑arch bridges.\n\nThe Impact You Will Have\n\nMentor and direct staff technical skill development while executing projects.\n\nManage technical elements of a project, selecting appropriate analyses, software, and design assumptions.\n\nPerform, review, and manage technical analysis and design, ensuring complete design details.\n\nCommunicate technical progress and issues to the Project Manager promptly and continuously.\n\nAdhere to internal quality control processes, documentation, and project tracking.\n\nContribute as a technical specialist or advisor on other project work.\n\nProvide input into practice growth.\n\nWork toward becoming a leading subject‑matter expert within the discipline.\n\nWhat We Are Looking For\n\nB.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) required; Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural) required.\n\nState Engineer License in Illinois required.\n\nA minimum of 8 years' experience in structural engineering with a transportation focus.\n\nExperience with IDOT, ISTHA, and CDOT preferred.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of discipline‑specific software, with proficiency in most relevant programs.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards governing the discipline.\n\nExperience with MicroStation required; experience in 3‑D bridge modeling highly desirable.\n\nExperience with Construction Engineering services highly desirable.\n\nCompensation\nThe expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the State of Illinois Pay Transparency Act.
