This role involves designing and retrofitting industrial power distribution systems and substations, performing complex electrical studies, and mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong communication skills, and a passion for driving innovation in electrical engineering practices.\n\nPreferred Locations\n\nWadsworth, OH\n\nColumbus, OH\n\nPittsburgh, PA\n\nPhiladelphia, PA\n\nany CDM Smith offices\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead and mentor a team of electrical engineers on industrial design projects\n\nDesign and retrofit industrial power distribution systems and substations.\n\nCreate complex electrical system designs including master plans, protection and generation models, and renewable energy systems.\n\nConduct power system studies and electrical calculations for lighting, communications, fire alarm, and security systems.\n\nPerform site reviews and update design requirements based on field conditions.\n\nEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and firm policies.\n\nDevelop white papers and technical documentation for internal knowledge sharing and external publication\n\nCollaborate with sales teams to develop proposals in response to RFPs.\n\nMeet with clients to understand design needs and provide technical guidance.\n\nAttend industry conferences and symposia to represent the firm and enhance visibility.\n\nProvide detailed engineering estimates and maintain project budgets and schedules.\n\nSupervise and review the work of junior engineers.\n\nSupport FEL and FEED delivery processes and design-build methodologies.\n\nContribute to the firm’s Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) initiatives.\n\nAssist in obtaining multi-state licensing as needed\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\nBachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline.\n\nProfessional engineering (PE) license.\n\n7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.\n\nThe frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.\n\nEquivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nProven experience leading industrial electrical engineering teams.\n\nFamiliarity with FEL and FEED delivery processes.\n\nExperience with progressive design-build and design-build delivery methods.\n\nAbility to obtain multi-state licensing.\n\nExperience designing medium and low-voltage power systems for water, wastewater, federal, and transit facilities.\n\nSkills and Abilities\n\nExpert knowledge of electrical design principles, power system analysis tools (e.g., SKM Power Tools, ETAP), and CADD 3D/4D software.\n\nStrong understanding of NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, UFC, and other industry standards.\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\n\nProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).\n\nAbility to supervise, estimate, and manage complex engineering projects.\n\nEEO Statement\nWe attract the best people in the industry, supporting their efforts to learn and grow.
