This role owns outcomes: it requires strong market knowledge, commercial discipline, regulatory awareness, on-the-ground expertise, and the ability to coordinate internal and external stakeholders without directly managing large teams. The role reports to VP, Development – Data Centers and may be a hybrid role based in Ridgewood, NJ, NYC, Chicago, or West Palm Beach, FL offices.\r\nProject Origination & Strategy\r\nIdentify and originate development opportunities to develop, own, and operate on-site energy infrastructure to support hyperscale data center loads\r\nEvaluate capacity, energy, and ancillary service market fundamentals.\r\nDevelop market entry strategies aligned with ISO planning cycles.\r\nLead site selection and land control strategy.\r\nAssess transmission constraints and nodal pricing dynamics.\r\nDevelopment Execution\r\nOversee environmental and permitting strategy in coordination with environmental leadership.\r\nLead interconnection application strategy and coordinate directly with ISOs, utilities, and transmission owners.\r\nManage consultant teams, including engineering, environmental, and transmission advisors.\r\nDevelop and maintain integrated development schedules and budgets.\r\nIdentify and mitigate fatal flaw risks.\r\nDrive projects toward financial close and construction readiness.\r\nStrategic Oversight\r\nProvide executive-level reporting on development pipeline status.\r\nPresent risk matrices and exposure analysis to leadership.\r\nAdvise on portfolio strategy and expansion regions.\r\nSupport the evaluation of joint ventures and M&A opportunities.\r\nWork Environment\r\nOffice-based role with travel to projects as required.\r\nFast-paced development environment with shifting regulatory and market dynamics.\r\nThe Ideal Candidate\r\nRequired Qualifications\r\nBachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Energy Systems, or related field.\r\n8+ years of experience in power project development within organized wholesale markets.\r\nExperience developing natural gas generation or utility-scale energy assets.\r\nProven ability to independently drive projects from early-stage to advanced development.\r\nStrong commercial negotiation skills.\r\nAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously.\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nExperience with gas-fired generation paired with large data center loads.\r\nAdvanced financial modeling capabilities.\r\nExperience in structuring tax equity or infrastructure capital partnerships.\r\nMBA or advanced degree.\r\nLeadership Competencies\r\nStrategic thinker with strong market intuition.\r\nHigh ownership mindset.\r\nComfortable operating with limited direction.\r\nStrong risk evaluator.\r\nSkilled at balancing technical, regulatory, and commercial variables.\r\nExecutive presence with the ability to influence without authority.\r\nBenefits\r\nWe offer a competitive compensation package and a comprehensive benefits program including medical benefits, paid vacation and holidays, and 401K matching.\r\nEEO Statement\r\nScale strives to attract and retain a workforce that reflects the composition of our customer base and communities.
