Asphalt Paving Superintendent - Eastern NC
Fred Smith Company is seeking an experienced Asphalt Superintendent in our Wilson, NC location to oversee field operations, lead crews, and ensure high-quality asphalt paving projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all specifications.The Asphalt Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing field personnel in subgrade preparation, asphalt placement, and compaction. This role works closely with the Operations Manager to execute project plans, manage crews, and maintain performance standards across multiple job sites.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise crews in all aspects of asphalt paving, including subgrade preparation, laydown, and rollingEnsure projects are completed safely, on time, and in accordance with specifications and company standardsCoordinate daily work activities based on direction from the Operations ManagerPromote a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvementMonitor productivity, job performance, material yields, and overall project costsPlan and coordinate material procurement and delivery for efficient operationsTrain, mentor, and evaluate field personnel; support employee development and performance managementEnsure all employees receive proper onboarding, safety training, and job orientationMaintain compliance with company policies, EEO standards, and safety regulationsCollaborate with management, HR, and risk management teamsEvaluate staffing, equipment, scheduling, and training needs; communicate recommendations to leadershipEnsure all work complies with local laws, ordinances, and environmental (EPA) regulationsMaintain strong relationships with inspectors, engineers, customers, and the publicOversee equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance and repairsReview and submit accurate daily reports and maintain detailed logs of job site activityQualifications Knowledge & SkillsStrong expertise in asphalt paving operations, materials, and techniquesAbility to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and gradesExperience using precision measuring instruments and paving equipmentSolid understanding of production methods and quality control Experience3-5 years of asphalt paving experience requiredProven supervisory or leadership experience in field operationsExperience working with complex layouts and strict project specificationsEqual Opportunity Employment Statement Fred Smith Company is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.
