Fiber Network Technician (Omaha/Council Bluffs Area)
Job DetailsDescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for Fiber Network testing, maintenance, turnup, splicing on backbone fiber network and business customers statewide.Strong knowledge of fiber installation, splicing, and troubleshooting with OTDRRoutine maintenance on Fiber Optic Terminal EquipmentInstallation of multiple types of fiber equipmentMaintain remote POP locations: audit records, battery plant, A/C units, and generatorsIndividuals will be on-call on a rotating scheduleSome overtime is required.Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record.Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Occasional overnight maintenanceRequiredEDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:Two-year technical degree; orFive years technical, military training or telephone experienceExperience with fiber splicing requiredInstallation of Fiber Optics cable, optical equipment, or outside plant maintenance experienceStrong knowledge of fiber installation, splicing and troubleshooting with OTDRRequired SkillsExcellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, employees, superiors, and business contacts in a professional, timely and courteous manner.Excellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short noticeMust be able to work independently with little or no direct supervision and contribute to a team environment.Ability to make sound decisions using the information at handStrong trouble resolution and problem-solving skills Tools, Equipment, And SoftwareDemonstrated knowledge of personal computer applications Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Outlook Working Conditions And Physical RequirementsOutdoor and indoor work.Travel requiredAbility to lift 75lbsCurrently looking for candidates in the Southwest Iowa/Omaha area.
