Custodial and Maintenance Support

Description: The Custodial and Maintenance Support position is responsible to ensure fulfillment of major areas of custodial and maintenance work throughout the shelter, inside and outside facility and grounds maintenance, minor equipment upkeep and housekeeping duties. All staff positions are involved with working closely with staff, volunteers and the public and are expected to maintain a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere that reflects professionalism and commitment to support the work of the Humane Society. 1. Participates in development, implementation and upkeep of a maintenance control system to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of Humane Society equipment, grounds and facility. 2. Ensures organized storage of all maintenance and custodial supplies and equipment such as small engine maintenance. 3. Provides custodial care of public and staff restroom areas to ensure sanitation standards are maintained. 4. Provides custodial support of other public areas and offices to ensure sanitation standards are met. 5. Ensures outside lawn areas and shrubbery on the grounds and around buildings are trimmed and/or mowed. 6. Advises Director of Operations as needed regarding issues which should be addressed by outside lawn care provider during summer to ensure grounds are kept properly mowed and trimmed in accordance with provider’s contract. 7. Ensures sidewalks and are cleared during winter months and advises Director of Operations regarding any issues which may need to be addressed by outside providers as necessary. 8. Performs minor building and maintenance repairs and works with Director of Operations to ensure scheduled maintenance of furnaces, and other equipment in accordance with approved maintenance contracts and in accordance with timelines identified in maintenance control system. 9. Advises Director of Operations as needed when outside vendors may be needed for larger repair and maintenance projects. 10. Provides support to the pet cemetery upkeep and grave preparation. 11. Participates in team meetings to review procedures, discuss workplace issues and share ideas to improve facility and equipment care. 12. Keeps Director of Operations informed of facility, grounds, supply and equipment needs and provides input in development of budgetary concerns. 13. Performs such other duties as may be deemed necessary for the fulfillment of the Humane Society’s goals and objectives. Skills: Attention to detail; self-motivated; experience with maintenance and custodial work and use of tools, ability to understand and implement effective sanitation practices; good verbal and written skills; familiarity with chemicals and products used for cleaning; team player; willingness to continue learning; ability to work well with broad spectrum of the community; good sense of humor. All employees must be able to provide their own transportation to and from work. Must be able to manage heavy weight from a minimum of 50 lbs.
