The candidate will provide Linux administration for all IT systems (developed, procured, and maintained) for services utilized across the Directorate. This includes continuous monitoring of the application environment, multi-use servers, software licensing, and virtual machines. This position requires strong technical judgment, a security-minded approach, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the vision to help build a more efficient, resilient, and future-ready IT infrastructure from both a technical and resource perspective. Work Schedule: Hybrid with 3 days onsite Location: Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD\nPRIMARY DUTIES:\nInstalls, configures, and maintains Linux operating systems (Ubuntu and RHEL).\nTroubleshoot technical problems with system hardware, software, and networking.\nPerform system maintenance and software installations in a Linux environment.\nSchedule installations, upgrades, and maintenance in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.\nMaintain monthly security patches as required to address cybersecurity risks.\nUtilizes configuration management tools (Ansible) to ensure consistency across systems.\nSupports ongoing operations and maintenance of private and public Apache webservers.\nMaintains customer-facing services such as code scanning tools, Confluence and Gitlab.\nConducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, configuration guidelines, and IT security policies.\nConfigure IT hardware, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with our standards and project requirements.\nProvide continuous monitoring of the application environment, multi-use servers, software licensing, and virtual machines, while maintaining a current capabilities list and supporting interested parties in utilizing available services/applications.\nConfigure and maintain IT Datacenter hardware, software, and services including support ticket systems, virtual and physical servers, backup and recovery environments, license servers, and other shared servers.\nDeploy computer updates as approved by the configuration control board and maintain a comprehensive configuration management plan covering disk space management, workstation and server configuration/management, back-up procedures, software licensing configuration, operations plan, and document them in the system security plan.\nDevelop and maintain thorough documentation of installation, system architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures.\nREQUIREMENTS:\nExperience building, configuring, and troubleshooting systems in a Linux environment.\nExperience in Linux as a power user or administrator along with shell scripting expertise.\nExperience in production deployment, monitoring, and operational support.\nKnowledge of configuration management.\nKnowledge of networking and TCP/IP.\nExperienced with system imaging and migration.\nExperience with computer backup software.\nKnowledge of patch management.\nMust be able to acquire elevated user privileges in compliance with Federal standards for access to government systems.\nEffective issue triage and troubleshooting skills to resolve technical problems quickly.\nAbility to innovate and propose alternative solutions to resolve issues.\nTeam and customer-focused, strong work ethic, adaptable to change, able to multitask and work in a cooperative environment with shared responsibilities.\nPossess strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.\nExperience in executing required job duties in a dynamic environment.\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nRecent experience with NASA GSFC system administration, network, and security policies and procedures.\nExperience with supporting and securing Docker services and containers\nExperience hosting and managing Gitlab or similar services\nExperienced with Ansible and IBM BigFix (HCL BigFix) for enterprise endpoint management, automated patch deployment, and security remediation.\nExperienced with SentinelOne (S1) for endpoint detection and response (EDR), threat hunting, and automated policy enforcement.\nExperienced with Red Hat Satellite for lifecycle management, content delivery, and patch deployment across RHEL-based environments.\nExperienced with various server types (web, file, license, application, etc.)\nFamiliarity with continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and Agile software delivery.\nFamiliarity with compliance requirements of the NIST FIPS/FISMA or other formal IT Security compliance program.\nRELEVANT EXPERIENCE: At least 12 years of experience in providing computer systems administration for Linux (RHEL or Ubuntu) systems.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: BA/BS or higher preferred, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Assurance, Software Engineering or other related disciplines or equivalent experience.\nSECURITY CLEARANCE: Individual must meet government NAC and citizenship/ permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC.
