Our firm offers high-quality, challenging work in a collegial environment, paired with competitive compensation and benefits.ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a driven and ambitious Patent Attorney (0-5 years’ experience) with a background in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or adjacent academic background to join our growing team. This role is ideally suited for a candidate with a JD and patent bar admission who is in the early stages of their career and carries the ambition and capability to grow into a principal-level leader within our 30-attorney practice. We invest in our attorneys for the long term. If you aspire to eventually lead a team, this is the role for you.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution across biotech, biology, and chemistry disciplines• Freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses• Researching and drafting comprehensive legal opinions for clients• Performing patent and scientific literature searches • Assisting with patent office litigation matters• Collaborating with partners and senior associates on complex, worldwide IP portfolios• Supporting clients ranging from multinational corporations to early-stage startups EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS• Master's degree (M.S. or M.Eng.) in one or more of the following disciplines:• Biotechnology• Biochemistry or Molecular Biology• Cell Biology or Microbiology• Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry• Chemical Biology or Computational Chemistry• Materials Science or Polymer Chemistry• Pharmaceutical Sciences or Pharmacology• Juris Doctor (JD)IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE We are looking for a candidate who checks the following boxes:• Admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (Patent Bar)• Admitted to one or more state bars• 0–5 years of experience in patent prosecution, drafting, or related IP work (we’re looking for a personality fit & academic background over law experience)• Strong scientific foundation in biotech, molecular biology, or chemistry• Demonstrated ambition to grow into a leadership role and eventually assume principal responsibilities• Entrepreneurial mindset with long-term vision for building and managing client relationships• Exceptional written and oral communication skills• High attention to detail and ability to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional matters• Team-oriented with the drive to take on increasing responsibility over timeCOMPENSATION & WORK ENVIRONMENT • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience• Comprehensive benefits package• 1,500 billable hour annual requirement (enough hours to complete 1900 to reach big law salaries)• Full-time, in-office position• Collaborative and supportive firm culture with direct access to senior attorneys - regular training
