Volunteer Coordinator - Hospice

DescriptionThe Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing, managing, and growing the hospice volunteer program while also coordinating meaningful activities for patients in facility settings. This role plays a vital part in enhancing quality of life for patients by providing emotional support, companionship, and engaging experiences through both volunteers and structured activities.This position requires a compassionate, organized, and creative individual who can balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on patient and facility engagement.Key Responsibilities:Volunteer Program Management:Recruit, onboard, and train hospice volunteers in accordance with regulatory requirementsMaintain volunteer files, documentation, and compliance standardsCoordinate volunteer assignments based on patient and family needsTrack and report volunteer hours to meet Medicare requirementsProvide ongoing support, supervision, and recognition for volunteersDevelop and maintain community partnerships to grow the volunteer programActivity Coordination (Facility-Based Patients):Plan and implement engaging activities for hospice patients in facilitiesCoordinate with facility staff to ensure activities align with patient care plansProvide one-on-one and group activities that promote comfort, dignity, and emotional well-beingAdapt activities to meet the physical and cognitive abilities of patientsIncorporate seasonal, recreational, and therapeutic activitiesPatient & Family Support:Offer companionship and emotional support through volunteer involvementAssist with special projects (memory-making, legacy activities, etc.)Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to identify patient needsAdministrative & Compliance Duties:Ensure all volunteer services meet hospice and Medicare guidelinesMaintain accurate documentation in EMR (Axxess Hospice preferred)Participate in IDG meetings as neededAssist with audits and QAPI initiatives related to volunteer servicesRequirementsQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferredExperience in hospice, healthcare, volunteer coordination, or activities preferredStrong organizational and communication skillsCreative mindset with ability to plan engaging activitiesCompassionate and patient-centered approachAbility to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesBasic computer skills (Microsoft Office, EMR systems)Preferred Skills:Experience working in long-term care or hospice settingsKnowledge of hospice philosophy and regulationsEvent planning or activity coordination experienceAbility to build relationships with community partners and facilities
