Pharmacist in Charge at a Community Clinic Pharmacy

Guided Pharmacy Solutions (GPS) is hiring a pharmacist in charge at two community clinic locations. We offer a GREAT schedule and are closed evenings and holidays. Based on departmental needs, the current weekend staffing requirement is one Saturday per month from 9am to 1pm. GPS provides pharmacy management solutions to community clinics. Pharmacy Hours (Multiple Pharmacists Flex) M, W, F: 8 am - 5 pm T, TH: 8 am - 6 pm Sat: 9 am - 1 pm Sun: Closed Summary Responsible for the filling and dispensing of medication orders including the proper handling, usage, and storage of drugs in the pharmacy. Maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy. Responsible for acting as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug-related information and literature. Plans, organizes, and supervises work schedule of supportive personnel and pharmacists, as required. Performs routine quality control testing procedures; prepares and maintains all necessary records required by federal, state and local regulations. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Verifies, prepares, compounds and accurately dispenses medications. Consults with patients and/or medical practitioners on drug indications/contraindications, dosage, drug interactions, and side effects; provides other drug and pharmaceutical information as appropriate. 2. Responsible for interpretation of physician medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness, informing them of any errors, omissions, or discrepancies and, based on an evaluation of the patient's condition, suggests appropriate or alternate drug therapy to the physician. 3. Responsible for maintaining accurate and proper patient medication profiles, monitoring to ensure the proper choice of drug, dosage form, strength, length of therapy and interaction potential of the prescribed drug. 4. Monitors patient reactions to drug therapy. 5. Responsible for the dispensing, control and record keeping of all controlled substances. 6. Serves as information resource person to medical personnel. 7. Responsible for counseling patients about their prescriptions. 8. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of, and conforming to legal requirements, department policies and procedures concerning the distribution of drugs, as well as good working knowledge of recent developments in the field of pharmacy. 9. Assumes "charge pharmacist" responsibilities as required, for the coordination of pharmacists and supportive personnel, assigning work and delegating tasks and responsibilities, and for handling problems that arise during the absence or unavailability of the manager. 10. Responsible for conducting in-service education lectures for medical staff, nurses, pharmacists, students, and other health care personnel regarding drugs, procedures, and policies. 11. Supports and assists the pharmacist supervisors, managers and directors to integrate departmental and organizational goals into department’s activities. 12. Provide continuous patient specific assessment of the pharmacotherapy needs of a patient population, making real time interventions with the medical staff and nursing staff to facilitate optimal drug therapy and facilitate the provision of other pharmacy services. 13. Be able to critically evaluate and interpret medical information when providing specific information to medical providers. 14. Assists in supervising and training pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns and support staff. 15. May precept PharmD student rotations. 16. Performs related work as required. Employment Requirements Education/Work Experience: · Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD degree. · Minimum of one year experience as a registered pharmacist in a retail setting. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: · Excellent problem-solving & communication skills (verbal & written). · Must be a self-starter, able to work under pressure and be flexible in setting priorities. · Ability to do accurate, detailed analysis of complex information and issues is essential. · Possess extremely strong customer service skills. · Effectively interacts with team members and other departments. · Adaptable to changing priorities, tasks, and work schedules to meet customer service standards and needs Working Conditions/Physical Effort/Functional Demands: · Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 – 35 pounds. Standing and/or walking for more than seven (7) hours per day. · Work environment involves sitting, standing, walking, climbing (stairs, ladder). Carry objects, push, pull, twist, bend, reach, and squat as part of normal work activities. · Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
