Deliver for America’s health agency missions and enhance lives for hundreds of millions every day.\n\nJob Description\n\nGDIT is looking for a Database Administrator – Oracle & SQL Server to join our National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program.\n\nWe are seeking a collaborative and technically skilled engineer to support the delivery of secure, reliable, and high-performing enterprise database services. Our ideal candidate brings hands-on experience supporting Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments and a strong understanding of database operations, performance, security, and lifecycle management.\n\nAs a member of our Database Services team, this engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of enterprise database environments while partnering with customers to support their application and data requirements. The successful candidate will monitor and optimize database performance, troubleshoot technical issues, maintain security and compliance, perform upgrades and migrations, and support the continued modernization of database services across on-premises and cloud environments.\n\n This is a HYBRID role - 3 days on customer site in Bethesda MD.\n\nThis role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility. This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nAdminister, maintain, and support Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database environments, including installation, configuration, monitoring, patching, backup and recovery, and routine operations and maintenance.\nMonitor database availability, capacity, and performance; troubleshoot database, operating system, connectivity, and application-related issues; and implement corrective actions to maintain reliable service.\nMaintain secure and compliant database environments by implementing required configuration baselines, resolving security vulnerabilities, applying security patches, and supporting security and compliance assessments.\nPlan and execute database lifecycle activities, including version upgrades, migrations, platform changes, and the transition of databases from on-premises infrastructure to cloud environments.\nPartner with application owners and developers to support database requirements, including schema and table changes, access and permissions, data migrations, performance optimization, and troubleshooting application/database interactions.\nDevelop and maintain scripts, procedures, documentation, and automation that improve the consistency, efficiency, reliability, and repeatability of database administration and service delivery.\nParticipate in incident resolution, change management, project activities, Agile team execution, and continuous improvement efforts across the Database Services portfolio.\nRequired Qualifications\nBS/BA and 4+ years of relevant IT experience, or equivalent experience.\nHands-on experience administering Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server in production environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup, and recovery.\nExperience monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing database availability, connectivity, capacity, and performance.\nExperience securing database environments, including vulnerability remediation, security patching, access management, and configuration compliance.\nExperience supporting application teams with schema and table changes, data migrations, permissions, SQL execution, and database-related troubleshooting.\nExperience with database lifecycle upgrades and migrations, including migrations to AWS or Azure, and working knowledge of Windows/Linux, scripting, automation, and monitoring tools.\nStrong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service experience.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server high availability, replication, clustering, disaster recovery, and enterprise monitoring technologies.\nExperience with AWS and/or Azure database services, cloud database migrations, automation, Infrastructure as Code, or modern database service delivery practices.\nRelevant Oracle, Microsoft, AWS, or Azure certifications and experience supporting federal government, healthcare, life sciences, or similarly regulated environments.\n\n#NIHCIT #GDITFedHealthJobs\n\nWork Requirements\nYears of Experience\n\n4 + years of related experience\n\n* may vary based on technical training, certification(s), or degree\n\nCertification\n\nTravel Required\n\nLess than 10%\n\nSalary and Benefit Information\n\nThe likely salary range for this position is $107,744 - $126,500.
