{"schemaVersion":"jobsearcher.job.v1","id":"ab59dc2ea8d7f966e4b50ea8","url":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/ab59dc2ea8d7f966e4b50ea8","canonicalUrl":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/ab59dc2ea8d7f966e4b50ea8","title":"Document Control Manager - Electronics Manufacturing","description":"*Position Summary*\n\nSurface Mount Technology Corporation is seeking an experienced *Document Control Manager* to lead and actively support the Document Control function within our electronics manufacturing operation.\n\nThis is a *hands-on working-manager position*, not a purely administrative or people-management role.\n\nThe successful candidate will manage and prioritize the daily workload of the Document Control team, serve as a technical resource when questions or unusual situations arise, and personally perform document-control work when appropriate — particularly for new-customer onboarding, complex engineering changes, unusual documentation requirements and other non-routine activities.\n\nThe person in this role must have enough technical manufacturing knowledge to perform the work expected of the team they lead and to understand how documentation and data decisions affect purchasing, material control and manufacturing.\n\n*Hands-on document-control experience in electronics manufacturing is required.*\n\n*What You Will Do*\n\n* Manage and prioritize the daily workload of the Document Control team.\n* Provide technical guidance and answer questions involving manufacturing documentation, BOMs, engineering changes, part information and system data.\n* Personally process complex, unusual or higher-priority documentation activities when needed.\n* Support document-control activities associated with new customers, new assemblies and manufacturing transfers.\n* Process and oversee engineering changes and associated manufacturing documentation.\n* Maintain accurate manufacturing information within ERP/MRP systems.\n* Review and work with multi-level Bills of Material, assembly drawings, revisions and related manufacturing documentation.\n* Work with manufacturer names, manufacturer part numbers and approved manufacturer/vendor information, including AVLs.\n* Control the release, distribution, revision and retrieval of manufacturing documents.\n* Identify and help resolve discrepancies involving BOMs, part information, documentation or system data.\n* Support manufacturing when documentation or data issues affect production.\n* Coordinate with Engineering, Purchasing, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality and other functions as required.\n* Train, guide and support Document Control employees.\n* Maintain appropriate document integrity and controls consistent with SMT's quality and regulatory requirements.\n* Identify opportunities to improve Document Control processes through better systems, automation and thoughtful use of AI.\n* Partner with IT to reduce unnecessary manual data work, improve data flow and challenge existing processes when a better technical solution is possible.\n\n*What You Need to Know*\n\nCandidates should already have strong working knowledge of:\n\n* Electronics manufacturing or electronics assembly environments.\n* Manufacturing Bills of Material and BOM structure.\n* Manufacturer names and manufacturer part numbers.\n* Approved manufacturer/vendor lists and relationships.\n* Engineering changes such as ECOs, ECNs or equivalent change-control processes.\n* Revision-controlled manufacturing documentation.\n* ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing master data.\n* Assembly drawings and other manufacturing documentation.\n* General manufacturing process flow and how changes to documentation or material data affect production.\n\nYou do not need to be a manufacturing engineer, but you should understand manufacturing well enough to recognize the downstream consequences of inaccurate or incomplete information.\n\n*Leadership*\n\nPrevious formal supervisory experience is *preferred, but not required*.\n\nWe are more interested in someone who has demonstrated that they can:\n\n* become the person others go to with difficult questions;\n* prioritize competing work intelligently;\n* train or mentor others;\n* solve problems rather than simply route them elsewhere;\n* communicate effectively across functions;\n* make sound decisions while remaining hands-on.\n\nA strong Senior Document Control Specialist, Lead, Configuration Specialist or similar electronics-manufacturing professional who is ready to move into formal leadership may be an excellent fit.\n\n*Technology and Continuous Improvement*\n\nSMT is actively working to reduce repetitive administrative work through automation and AI.\n\nWe are looking for someone who is interested in that direction — someone who sees repetitive data entry, duplicate processes or manual comparisons and asks:\n\n*“Why are we still doing this manually?”*\n\nPrior AI experience is *not required*.
