Working cross-functionally, the Mechanical Engineer II will design and build custom components, actuators, and sensing methods across many products and research areas. Additionally, this role will participate in the enhancement of quality, reliability, and documentation of our existing product offerings, focusing on sustainment activities and continuous improvement initiatives.\nThe ideal candidate has mastery of both electro-mechanical systems and hydraulic systems, strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and enthusiasm for new ideas.\nTo be considered for the Mechanical Engineer II role, please submit a portfolio of machines designed and built that show novel design skills in the areas of actuation, sensing, and structural design.\nReporting to the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Team Manager, this is a fulltime, salaried role based in Waltham, MA. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.\nIn this role, the Mechanical Engineer II will:\nUtilize expertise towards elevating product quality and reliability, engaging in activities to refine and optimize our current solutions.\nDrive improvements in documentation practices, ensuring comprehensive and accurate records that support ongoing product maintenance and enhancement efforts.\nApply rigorous engineering testing and qualitative analysis procedures to deepen design knowledge and ensure the reliability and performance of complex systems.\nTake ownership of entire sub-systems, ensuring all components function as intended within the broader product ecosystem.\nDecompose complex challenges into actionable tasks, prioritizing effectively to meet project timelines and objectives.\nProvide constructive design feedback and critical analysis to drive continuous improvement within the team.\nEngage in cross-functional collaboration, particularly with electrical and software engineering teams, to integrate mechanical solutions seamlessly into overall product designs.\nExplore and evaluate next-generation technologies and innovations, contributing insights and expertise to inform the company's strategic direction and future product development initiatives.\nWhat we are looking for:\nBachelor’s in mechanical engineering or relevant engineering degree, Masters preferred\nMinimum of 2 years of professional experience with a passion for sustainment activities and enhancing product quality and reliability\nHands-on design experience with articulated electro-mechanical systems\nProficient in SolidWorks (or equivalent) modeling, tolerance stack analysis, engineering drawing creation, and GD&T\nDemonstrated ability to take a complex product from concept through production\nExcellent communication skills\nExperience designing for mass production, which may include experience in any of the following: machining, welding, casting, molding, or 3D printing\nPreferred qualifications:\nDesign experience with hydraulic systems\nExperience with analytical and empirical analysis of heat transfer\nExperience with CE and UL certification of complex electro-mechanical systems\nExperience with FEA simulations\nWorking knowledge of relevant safety standards for autonomous vehicles and robotic manipulation systems\nWe are an equal opportunity employer.
