Senior Data Architect – Azure & Microsoft Fabric (Freelance, Remote EU)Our client is migrating their entire data ecosystem from GCP / BigQuery to Microsoft Fabric and needs a Senior Data Architect to lead the end‑to‑end architecture and migration strategy.This is a role for someone who thrives in complex, high‑impact environments where cloud platforms, data models, and engineering teams all need to move in sync.You’ll act as the lead architect within a cross‑functional delivery team, working alongside the engineering and delivery team to design the target architecture and guide the migration.6‑month freelance mission starting June/July (flexible based on availability)100% remote - open to candidates anywhere in EuropeKey ResponsibilitiesDesign end‑to‑end data architecture in Microsoft Fabric, covering ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumptionDefine the migration strategy from BigQuery to Fabric Lakehouses and Warehouses (Staging, ODS, Data Marts)Establish project standards and best practices across ingestion, ELT, governance, security, and modellingDesign ingestion patterns for SAP, Salesforce, Oracle, SFTP, and API‑based sourcesLead technical workshops with client stakeholders and validate architecture decisionsProduce formal deliverables: HLD, LLD, flow diagrams, and technical specifications for engineering teamsOversee implementation and support Fabric engineers throughout the migrationRequired Experience10+ years in data architecture, including 3+ years as a lead architect on cloud platformsProven experience delivering large‑scale data migrations from GCP or AWS to AzureStrong background producing formal deliverables and leading client workshopsAbility to guide engineering teams and ensure architectural consistency across workstreamsTechnical SkillsMicrosoft Fabric expertise: OneLake, Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, SparkStrong understanding of data warehousing (Kimball / Inmon) and ELT patternsKnowledge of BigQuery structures and export mechanismsFamiliarity with SAP, Salesforce, Oracle extraction patternsExperience with Azure DevOps, Git, and architecture tools (Lucidchart, Visio, etc.)
