This role manages a team of two-to-three (one part-time team member), distributing and overseeing daily accounting tasks, while reporting directly to the VP of Finance on financial performance, reporting, and strategic initiatives. The Controller oversees payroll processes — including payroll tax compliance — and loan compliance, and is expected to bring a modern, efficient approach to accounting operations, including the use of AI tools to build and improve systems and processes.\nWe're a locally owned property management company bringing excellence to multifamily communities across the region. If you're someone who takes pride in your work, leads with kindness, and wants to help build strong, supported teams who make those communities possible, we'd love for you to join us.\nDuties & Responsibilities\nOversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close\nManage, mentor, and delegate tasks to a team of accountants (2-3)\nReview and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements\nPrepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the VP of Finance\nOversee payroll auditing, approval, billing, and accounting, including payroll tax compliance, to ensure accuracy and timely payment to employees\nMonitor and ensure compliance with loan covenants and requirements\nEnsure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal financial policies\nSupport budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with the VP of Finance\nMaintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets\nCoordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and other outside financial partners\nIdentify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems, including the use of AI tools to build more efficient workflows\nManage a variety of projects across accounting, reporting, and process improvement as requested by the VP of Finance\nRequired Skills\nStrong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting\nProven ability to manage and develop a small accounting team\nExperience with payroll processes, including payroll tax compliance\nExperience with loan compliance and covenant reporting\nProficient in Microsoft Excel\nComfortable using AI tools and building systems/processes with AI\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nHigh attention to detail and accuracy\nExcellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage a variety of projects at once\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly to leadership\nAbility to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment\nEducation & Experience\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required\nCPA and/or Master’s degree preferred\n7+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred, including prior supervisory or team lead experience\nReal estate or property management industry experience preferred (Entrata software)\nExperience with payroll systems and payroll tax compliance preferred\nThis list of duties and responsibilities is not all-encompassing and may be subject to change to meet the evolving needs of the organization.\nIf this excites you, and you are committed to upholding our core values, we’d love to hear from you!
