This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of building systems and infrastructure to support critical business activities of our client. The Program Director will lead large, cross-functional teams; standardize best practices; mitigate operational risk; and ensure UG2 consistently delivers high-quality, reliable, and compliant facilities services.\n\nJob Responsibilities:\n\nLeadership & Management:\nLead and mentor a team of engineers, maintenance technicians, and support staff to ensure high performance and professional development.\nDevelop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for facility operations and maintenance.\nEstablish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure operational excellence.\nFacility Operations & Maintenance:\nOversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS systems, life safety, and laboratory systems.\nImplement and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the life of equipment.\nEnsure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and building codes.\nTechnical & Engineering Oversight\nProvide technical leadership for central utility plants, critical building systems, and infrastructure supporting life sciences operations\nAdvise on capital planning, lifecycle management, and operational readiness for new or renovated facilities\nReview and approve technical documentation, including SOPs, P&IDs, and engineering procedures\nProject Management:\nDevelop and manage small capital projects, renovations, and upgrades to building systems, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.\nCollaborate with property management, tenants, and other stakeholders to align project goals and objectives.\nBudgeting & Financial Management:\nDevelop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for engineering and maintenance activities.\nTrack expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.\nVendor & Contract Management:\nSuggest, select, negotiate, and manage contracts with vendors and service providers to ensure quality work and timely delivery.\nEvaluate vendor performance regularly and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.\nSafety & Compliance:\nEnsure that all building systems comply with safety and environmental regulations.\nDevelop and implement emergency response plans and ensure that the facility is prepared for any potential incidents.\nInnovation & Continuous Improvement:\nStay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.\nIdentify and implement innovative solutions to improve efficiency, sustainability, and overall facility performance.\n\nKey Interactions:\n\nEngage with all leaders and stakeholders.\nEngage with all employees.\nEngage with customers and tenants.\n\nRequirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Education and/or Experience:\n\nBachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., PE, CFM, CHFM, LEED AP) are preferred.\nA minimum of 10-years of experience in facilities management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a life science, medical, pharmaceutical, or research facility preferred.\nIn-depth knowledge of building systems, including utility, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BMS, life safety, and laboratory infrastructure.\nProven experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs, energy management, and sustainability initiatives.\nStrong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.\nCritical thinking as part of a team in a research environment.\nExcellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.\nProficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and other relevant software.\nAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours.\n\nWorking Conditions and/or Physical Requirements\n\nThe role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and perform physical labor related to maintenance and repair.\nThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.\nPossible frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.
