Under the direction of the Executive Director, this Full Time* position is responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and stewardship of newly planted and existing trees throughout Greenscape's service area.\nThis hands-on position focuses on watering, mulching, weeding, light pruning, tree monitoring, and general tree care. The Urban Forestry Technician also assists with community tree plantings, volunteer events, and other programs that support Greenscape's mission.\n*Part-Time candidates will be considered; pay and benefits adjusted accordingly\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\n1. Tree Care & Maintenance\nWater newly planted trees according to seasonal and site-specific needs\nInstall and maintain mulch rings around trees following urban forestry best practices\nRemove weeds, invasive vegetation, and competing growth around trees\nPerform light pruning of young trees to encourage healthy structure and growth\nMonitor tree health and identify signs of stress, disease, pest activity, or damage\nInstall and maintain tree stakes, ties, watering bags, and other tree establishment materials\nAssist with tree inventory, inspections, and documentation of maintenance activities\nReport tree hazards, maintenance needs, and site concerns to supervisors\n2. Program Support\nAssist with community tree planting events and volunteer workdays\nLoad, transport, and distribute trees, mulch, tools, and supplies\nSupport educational and outreach activities as needed\nRepresent Greenscape professionally when interacting with volunteers, residents, businesses, and community partners\n3. Equipment & Operations\nSafely operate and maintain hand tools and equipment, including shovels, rakes, pruners, pole pruners, wheelbarrows, water tanks, pumps, and utility vehicles\nPerform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and work vehicles\nAssist with delivery and setup of materials for tree planting and stewardship projects\nMaintain accurate records of watering schedules, maintenance activities, and project progress\nREQUIREMENTS\nEducation & Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required\nExperience in landscaping, horticulture, arboriculture, parks maintenance, or related outdoor work preferred\nCoursework or certifications in horticulture, forestry, arboriculture, or environmental sciences are a plus\nMust reside in Northeast Florida\nValid Florida driver’s license and good driving record\nAbility to safely operate trucks and trailers preferred\nAvailability to work some Saturdays and evenings; comp time provided\nMust pass a background check\nKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities\nBasic knowledge of tree care, horticulture, landscaping, or urban forestry practices\nAbility to identify common tree species and recognize basic signs of tree stress/decline preferred\nKnowledge of proper watering, mulching, planting, and pruning techniques\nAbility to safely operate hand tools and light equipment\nStrong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures\nAbility to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team\nAbility to interact professionally and courteously with volunteers, residents, and community partners\nStrong organizational skills and ability to maintain basic records and documentation\nCommitment to safety and stewardship of public spaces\nPassion for trees, sustainability, and community improvement\nUnderstanding of trees as tools for environmental justice, climate resilience, and green infrastructure strongly preferred\nFamiliarity with urban forestry metrics and tools (i.e. iTree) strongly preferred\nPhysical\nAbility to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions\nAbility to walk on uneven terrain and work at a variety of project sites\nAbility to stand, bend, kneel, stoop, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday\nAbility to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly\nAbility to load and unload trees, mulch, tools, and other materials\nHOW TO APPLY\nPlease email your CV and a letter of interest with Subject: \"Urban Forestry Tech Application\" to info@greenscapeofjax.org by July 10, 2026.
