The AE2S Civil Practice Leader will serve as the strategic technical leader who shapes how we deliver solutions, differentiates the practice in the market, and anticipates the evolving needs of the communities and clients AE2S serves.In this role, you will champion technical excellence, guide the evolution of our service offerings, and drive innovation across our civil portfolio. You will develop and execute a forward-thinking practice strategy—one that strengthens technical quality, enhances market position, and ensures we pursue and win the right work.As our Civil Practice Leader, your primary focus will be advancing what we deliver for civil and municipal clients and how we deliver it. You will leverage deep market and trend intelligence to position the practice for sustained success, lead pursuit strategy with a focus on technical differentiation, and serve as a thought leader who inspires teams and clients alike.The AE2S Civil Practice includes engineers, designers, and surveyors who plan, evaluate, design, and oversee construction of civil infrastructure projects. Our engineers, designers, and surveyors are experts in their field, continuously working to improve project delivery for AE2S clients in the areas of:Municipal EngineeringHeavy CivilHorizontal infrastructure / pipelinesGrading and Site Design (including rail spurs)Mass gradingStreet, water, and sewer systemsSite design of stormwater infrastructure Indicators of SuccessDevelopment and implementation of the Practice’s strategic initiativesContinued and expanded technical thought leadership in the marketplaceContinued improvement and growth of the Practice’s Employee-OwnersAnnual Practice sales goals and personal utilization are met or exceededQuantitative growth of Practice services into new geographies and for new clientsResponsibilitiesLeadershipOrganizes and motivates the Civil team while actively supporting and advocating for Company mission, vision, and initiativesPromotes the desired AE2S culture by leading through exampleDraws out the best in employees within the Practice Leader’s sphere of influenceManages a healthy, constructive tension between project execution and internal priorities and recognizes when adjustment is required to maintain balanceEstablishes high expectations and constructively leads the team in accomplishing the goalsStrategic PlanningDevelops Practice Strategic Plans with specific goals and initiatives, and drives implementation in collaboration with the Practices DirectorCoordinates with the Operations Mangers, Client Program Leaders, and other Practice Leaders to evaluate business plans associated with geographic growth opportunities and staffing resourcesAnalyzes global decisions for alignment to the AE2S strategic planTechnical Innovation and ResourcesImplements activities that drive knowledge creation and disseminationAssesses the firm’s technical competitive position relative to other firms and organizations to identify approaches that will improve the firm’s market shareDevelops new service offerings in alignment with client needs and expectationsWorks with Operations Managers to identify technical resources needed to augment, mentor, and train staff on the pursuit and delivery of technical solutionsManages and coordinates internal and external technical content, presentations, and professional society engagementTrendsIdentifies and clearly describes technical trends to key geographic business development staffEvaluates and prioritizes trends relative to our client’s needsDevelops strategies to implement prioritized trends to enhance service offeringsBusiness DevelopmentProvides technical leadership to business development efforts and project pursuit teamsSupports key business development activities and project pursuits Supports annual geographic market assessments and development of sales goals for the PracticeManages and coordinates the Practice opportunity pipeline in VantagepointBasicBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or directly related fieldRegistration as a Professional Engineer, functional equivalent, or ability to obtain within six months8+ years of experience in Civil Engineering professional environment2+ years of progressive management experienceDemonstrated track record of technical excellenceProven ability to communicate effectively with clients, the public, and other employeesProven ability to manage clients, win new clients, and retain clientsAbility to travel as required for project/client responsibilities and business developmentAll applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulationsPreferredProven ability to lead internal initiatives and external projects including functioning productively as part of a project teamProven ability to effectively manage multiple initiatives simultaneouslyProven ability to work remotely and manage projects, clients, and project team membersProven ability to maintain and model exemplary reputation for integrity, fairness, reliability, good judgment, and aptitude among peers, management, and staffProven ability to work well with diverse groupsProven ability to make decisions and delegate appropriatelyPhysicalAbility to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrainAbility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of timeOccasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twistOccasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weightMay require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 poundsAbility to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
