Plant Maintenance Manager
Walker Elliott has partnered with our client to seek an experienced Plant Maintenance Manager to lead a maintenance operations at a well-established U.S. consumer products manufacturing facility, south of San Antonio, Texas. This is a hands-on leadership role with real impact - you will own the reliability and performance of a high-volume production environment, partner directly with plant leadership, and build a maintenance culture defined by safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. What You'll Do Lead & Develop Your Team • Manage maintenance personnel across all shifts - assigning work, evaluating performance, and holding the team accountable to high standards. • Recruit, hire, and develop skilled maintenance technicians to maintain technical capability and adequate staffing. • Champion a culture of safety, ownership, and continuous improvement throughout the department. Drive Reliability & Uptime • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs that extend equipment life and ensure plant reliability. • Investigate equipment failures, determine root causes, and execute corrective actions that stick. • Coordinate daily maintenance priorities with plant leadership to align with production schedules and minimize downtime. Manage Operations & Compliance • Oversee all facility safety and environmental compliance programs, ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory standards. • Manage parts procurement, vendor coordination, and contractor oversight to ensure timely, on-standard execution of maintenance work. • Monitor outside contractor performance against safety requirements and quality expectations. • Maintain organized maintenance records, work orders, parts inventories, and documentation essential to planning and compliance. • Partner with the Plant Manager on the annual maintenance budget. • Support engineering projects - recommending improvements, assisting with design and layout, and driving initiatives through to completion. • Occasional travel to other manufacturing locations to assist with problem-solving and engineering implementation. Supervisory Scope This role carries direct supervisory responsibility for 4 maintenance team members. What We're Looking For Education • Some college required; a degree with a mechanical engineering emphasis is strongly preferred. Experience & Skills • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment. • Demonstrated experience leading a maintenance department, including hiring, developing, and supervising technical staff. • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems, PLC controls, hydraulics, and pneumatics. • Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple maintenance activities in a high-throughput manufacturing setting. • Solid understanding of safety and environmental compliance programs and how to operationalize them. • Experience coordinating and overseeing outside contractors and vendors working within a manufacturing facility. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat; ability to quickly learn and adopt additional software systems. • Experience managing parts procurement, preventative maintenance scheduling, and equipment repair planning. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain thorough maintenance records and documentation. • Physically mobile and able to access all production areas, including climbing stairs and ladders to inspect equipment and operations. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
