Work involves investigating, handling, writing violation notices, and resolving numerous complaints and problems dealing with code violations. Additional responsibilities involve the dissemination of information to various organizations, governmental agencies, and public officials. The successful candidate will be even-tempered, communicative, thorough in his or her research of applicable laws, and able to handle conflict in a professional manner.\r\nEssential work tasks include:\r\nPerforms inspections of houses and property for conformance with applicable codes pertaining to signs, housing, litter, overgrowth, abandoned vehicles, rubbish, and other violations\r\nInterprets and enforces the provisions of applicable city codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations\r\nResponds to complaints and questions related to code enforcement issues\r\nResearches problems and initiates problem resolution\r\nDiscusses problem areas with property owners, landlords, and contractors\r\nGathers information and evidence for prosecution of violators; interviews citizens; prepares and presents cases to administrative hearing court and testifies as needed\r\nMaintains records of inspection activities; makes photographic records of violations. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, inspection reports, notices, formal warnings, or other documents\r\nCommunicates with supervisors, employees, other departments, city council members, board members, attorneys, contractors, property owners, landlords, outside agencies, community groups, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems\r\nChecks property zoning and zoning changes. Attends meetings and hearings as required by supervisor\r\nPerforms other work as required by Program Director\r\nPersonal qualities:\r\nStrong Work Ethic\r\nTeachable/Continuous Learner\r\nReliable/Dependable\r\nCollaborative/Team Contributor\r\nQualificationsHigh school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency.\r\nThree years of experience in code inspection, construction inspection, or building construction work is preferred.\r\nMust be proficient in operating a computer and must have experience using programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.\r\nBusiness letter writing experience is a plus.\r\nMust have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.\r\nKnowledge, skills, and abilities:\r\nKnowledge of city, state, and federal regulations.\r\nSkill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle.
